Description

I have for sale a very nice Jeep CJ5. This Jeep is a special order with a V8, T176 4-speed and Dana 300 Transfer case. (Very rare combination drive train for 1979, but was standard for the 1980 models.) It was built in November, 1979 and delivered (for Christmas) December that year. It is shown on the build sheet as *SRO* which indicates Special Request Order. The Jeep has all original panels except fenders (no idea why originals were replaced), and I replaced the dash panel. The original dash had been smashed with what looked like the end of a 2x4, right in the tachometer and wiper switch. So the dash is an after market, and I did not replace the tachometer and clock simply because the old analog clocks run the battery down when the Jeep sits so much. (Drove it 238 miles this year, and about the same last year.). The tachometer was not usable, but the original clock was ok, just not good enough for this level of build. And the original wiring plugs are in place if the new owner wants to re-install the tachometer and clock! The engine is OEM, but the transmission is not. But I DO have the original, on the bench, fully re-manufactured, ready to be re-installed. (It's nice, smooth and tight too!) But the transmission in it was re-manufactured before it was installed, and is in fine shape. So the original doesn't need to go in now, just when the buyer gets ready. The axles are original and tight, with 3:54 gear and two-piece rear axles. New universal joints on front and rear drive shafts. Front hubs re-built with new bearings and races, and seals. Newer brake pads front and rear shoes with maybe 1,000 miles. It has 5 new BF Goodrich All-Terrain K2 33x12.50x15 tires, maybe 200 miles or so, and a 2.5" Rough Country Soft Ride lift. It actually rides pretty smooth to be an old CJ! New shocks too! It has a nice Pioneer head unit with Blue tooth, USB charge/read port, a 7 band EQ and a 500 watt 4-channel amplifier driving 2 6x9's (rear boxes, nice!) and 2 3 inch dash speakers. EQ also has separate Sub control, but I don't think it needs a sub, it hits really hard! It also has a separate, directly wired from start relay, 100 amp wiring circuit that is protected with a re-settable breaker. The stereo and the front fog lights (relay controlled) are powered by this circuit. Really nice wiring through out Jeep! I simply did not like the original crappy blue engine color, so I went with Antique Copper. It had 5 coats of the copper and 5 coats of clear, both 1000 deg rated. I like it, and am pretty sure the buyer will too. I get lots of compliments wherever I drive and show it! All fuel and break lines replaced front to rear with stainless steel, and every belt and hose replaced. Has a new Holley 600cfm 4 barrel carburetor with electric choke. Has new master cylinder and new heater core and blower motor also. All gauges work as well as all lighting. I do want to point out that there are 3" x 8" fiberglass patches, on **each side underneath, along the edge of the right and left tow board, outer sections. It was this way when I bought it, and after checking it, all the original metal is there, and looks to have been added just to reinforce those areas. Floors are solid! All metal and no rust, so I think it's ok, but want the buyer to know up front. But not really a big job if you wanted redo them, maybe at next restoration even. No rust on this Jeep. It also has new(er) dual exhaust, maybe 1,000 miles, sounds great and runs really strong. And has new style top with 2-piece doors. This top is much more user friendly than the originals were, just easier to use. The half doors are excellent when cruising! All widows in top and doors are crystal clear too. Also comes with the original owner's manual! So, sorry to be long winded, just want the buyer to know what this is, and how rare a Jeep it is. Has features that I have never seen on another one, and this is the 17th I've owned. Few nicer than this. Shipping is at buyer's expense, but I will help anyway I can if needed. Happy to answer any questions you might have, call 706-239-8461. I also update the pictures showing the current mileage @ 44,040.
EDIT: **The fiberglass reinforcement that I talked about earlier (toe board, underneath) is only on the right side, nothing on the left. I rolled under the Jeep today (hadn't been under there in a long while) and to my amazement, nothing on the left! Drove the Jeep yesterday up town and back just to clean it out and it now has 44,052 miles. Runs really strong! Oil pressure cold 60psi (has 60# spring in relief valve), and at temperature 15psi idle and 50psi driving. You can add a Bulltear (Bulltear.com) steel plate if you'd like more pressure. I prefer lower oil pressure on the original head gaskets. Jeep doesn't leak any fluids. All fluids (except engine oil) is Amsoil.
All funds must clear my bank before the Jeep will be released. Clear title. Thanks for looking!
