1966 Porsche 911
Original Build Specs: Light Ivory, 604 Black Leatherette Engine # 907846 Transmission # 231062 902/1 Weber Carburators Purchased from Factory on June 21, 966
This matching numbers and very original/correct wood-dash 1966 Porsche 911 was originally ordered through Trans Ocean Motors in Pasadena, A by a local Mid-Century architect by the name of Gordon Stice. In 1961 Gordon competed his most famous work, is primary residence in La Canada, A. Coined as a "Mid-Century Tree House", 639 El Camino Corto would be known for years to come and also home to this beautiful SWB 911.
Some short history on the property:
4639 El Camino Corto
Here is 304572 on January 20th, 015 in front of "the house it grew up in":
Gordon is still alive and resides in Arizona. I had a very pleasant phone conversation with him regarding the history of his old 911. Porsches were very popular among Southern California Mid-Century designers (John Lautner also drove a 1966 911). Gordon owned a 1957 Speedster and in early 1966 decided that he and his wife would take advantage of the popular "European Delivery Program". They purchased chassis #304572 on June 21, 966 from the Porsche factory in Stuttgart. They drove this early 911 all over Europe for 6 weeks before shipping it back to California in August 1966 via Amsterdam. After arriving in California, ordon took the car in for its first state-side service at Trans-Ocean Motors. Gordon would continue to love and cherish this 911 until 2004 when he sold it to a junior architect that stored the car and drove it sparingly. Since being discovered in early 2015, his 2-owner time capsule has been subjected to a very sympathetic restoration. The idea was to retain as much originality as absolutely possible. There are many over-restored early 911s out there, ut you will be hard pressed to ever find a car as original and sound as 304572. Original orange-bar hood crest in perfect condition, long with all original badging, one of that re-pro junk.
Wearing a correct acrylic enamel windows-out/bare-metal single stage respray in its original 6604 "Light Ivory" shade, 04572 presents an astonishing level of originality. Perfect gaps and panel fitment. No bondo or patched body panels, ust virgin thin German steel. Door shut with that signature Porsche ping. Completely rust free, s you would expect from being in the stewardship of one of the original Souther California PCA members. Original Siglia glass. Original gauges all date coded 3/66. Chrome is mostly original with light patina. Original wood steering wheel. Ordered with factory radio-delete panel and never drilled for an antenna (very rare!). Interior is 90% original, he front seats were recovered. Wheels are all original 15x4.5 and date coded 3/66. A new set of Michelin XZX tires help perfect that original Porsche stance. All lenses are original Hella and Bosch european colored turn signals, s delivered with the car. Rare ANCO red-dot dealer installed wipers.
Complete and original took kit/jack with rare spark plug wrench and Messko tire gauge!
Gordon was a frequent of Scientific Automotive in Pasadena, A since 1968, nd there are stacks of records from throughout the years. Original motor #907846 is in perfect running condition has has recently been gone through with all new seals, il lines, arb re-builds, nd ignition components. It runs fantastically and is mated to its original 901 5-speed #231062, ecently fully rebuilt by Jaques of Scotts Porsche in National City, A. This 911 runs, rives, hifts, nd stops just as it would have in 1966!!! This is the early 911 that most have been looking for. No stories, ever modified, rashed, r tweaked. Just an honest California car that has had a very easy and loving life. I could carry on for days with originality, rovenance, tc.... but I will let the car speak for itself. All original paperwork, aintenance receipts, wners manuals, tc accompany the car.
I am offering the car with no reserve in order to set a fair market value. Please contact me with any individual questions or photos requests. I am an early911sregistry member and a 356 registry member and owner. I have no problem assisting with overseas buyers. The car holds a clear California title and has both of original black plates "RVH 931".
