Description

Westfield SE Lotus 7 Replica Kit

The kit has essentially not been started – one or two brake lines have been installed, but nothing else has been done. It was manufactured about 20 years ago, and it has been waiting for me to get around to assembling it since then. It is getting pretty clear that I'm never going to get around to building it, so perhaps someone else can enjoy it.

A comparable kit from Westfield today retails for around $10,000 plus shipping to the US. The Cortina donor parts that are included with the kit would not be expensive, but somewhat difficult to accumulate, probably not available in the US, and expensive to ship from England. All of the kit parts like new, and the donor parts are generally in good condition. Note that the chassis is set up for right hand drive – it could be changed, but that would be a significant fabrication and welding job. Note also that the last two photos showing completed cars are NOT the kit in this bid - they are just to illustrate what the completed project will look like.

What is included in the kit:

  • Space frame chassis – factory powder coated

  • All suspension linkage – front A arms, rear trailing arms, etc.

  • Coil-over spring and shock units

  • Fiberglass body – Yellow gel coat finish

  • Factory installed aluminum inner panels

  • Complete electrical system – wiring harness, lights, etc.

  • Brake and clutch master cylinders – brake lines

  • Fuel tank

  • Chrome roll bar

  • Assembly manual

Other parts included in the auction – used donor Cortina parts required to complete the kit:

  • Front spindles, bearings and brakes (rotors and calipers)

  • Steering rack

  • Steering column

  • Rear axle and rear brakes

  • Set of wheels

What is needed to complete the car:

  • Powertrain – Engine, transmission and driveshaft

  • Cooling system – radiator and fan, hoses, etc.

  • Exhaust system – front pipe, muffler and side pipe

  • Fuel system – lines, pump, filter, etc.

  • Instruments

  • Steering wheel – knobs, switches and other small controls

  • Seats

  • Miscellaneous hardware – hood latches, etc.

The chassis configuration is ideal for an in-line 4cylinder engine – a Miata engine is a readily available, low cost option, but almost any other 4 cylinder will work. Some of these kits have been assembled with small V8 engines, but it may be a snug fit. Some kits are also being assembled using liter-size motorcycle engines, and some have been built with Mazda rotary engines. Even with a basic Miata engine the car will be very quick – the completed weight for the whole car should be less that 1300 pounds.

The work that is required is mainly sourcing the remaining parts and assembly. Some fabrication of brackets and mountings will be required. It should be a relatively simple and quick project. Local pickup only.
