I will rate this Suburban as being in Fair condition. Major weakness are the brakes which will require work. Secondary issues are the likely need for exhaust work in a year or two. Rear bumper is really a non issue other than cosmetic. The offset to this is that the Chevy engines and Transmissions on Suburban 2500s are reported to have a really long life.
While I am not any expert on cars/ trucks, y guess is that you are looking at around $1,500 -$2,000 to get the breaks redone based on an estimate that I received. I drove this Suburban last week, nd the brakes are very mushy- I doubt that they would effectively enable one to stop quickly at any real speed no matter how hard you pushed the brake peddle.
As you likely know, odern versions of well equiped Suburbans are well over $65,000 before taxes are considered, nd they do not have the 8.1 Vortec.
The 8.1 Votec coupled with the 4.1 rear axle on this Suburban specs a maximum trailer weight of12,000lbs( fyi- the 2003 Suburban 2500 with a 8.1 and a 3.73 axle ratio specs only a 10,100 maximum trailer weight). See attached photos. (note: I understand that the last year of the 8.1 was in 2006, nd I believe that newer Suburbans can only spec a maximum trailer weight of 8,300lbs)
As for exterior and interior condition, think this Suburban looks great. See the photos,
I have had the car wired to be connected to an iphone so music can be played - plug in the phone and put it on the center consol and select your music and fire-up the 8.1. You will dominate the road while rocking to music from the the Bose speakers.
Speedometer has been recently fixed (the speed needle not working is a common problem on many older Suburbans) and relighted with a cool blue LED light. Likewise rear pistons that hold up the rear lift-gate have recently been replaced.
One other really nice thing about this Suburban is the fact that it runs well on regular gas. While you will not be wining any miles per gallon awards with this Suburban, ou will be able to pull a boat or RV trailer that few other trucks can pull especially if there are hills on your route.
I will also note that the low cost and age of this Suburban means that state taxes/ registration fees will be low.
Included with the Suburban is a towing ball and a bike rack.
Former wife also loved to drive this Suburban if this means anything.
