1964 Land Rover pre Defender Series 2a

Driving a Series Land Rover is something that is one of life's great joy and privileges. This is what I call the Labor of Love. Seeking to restore an exquisite piece of Solihull history. we embarked our journey on a 1964 Series 2a. It was a left hand drive with a great frame and straight body . I will do my best to detail every component and methods used to create this labor of love. The tear down of the truck was initiated and the frame was sent out to get stripped down and than powder coated. Complete body sent to paint shop for strip down and preparation for new paint. During the course of waiting on the return of frame and body. all new engine parts were ordered to start complete overhaul. New piston. am. ings. ead. alves seal. rods. cranks. bearing. tc. New water pump. alternator. belt. radiator re cored. distributor and cap. wires and plugs. spin on oil filter. The complete ignition and wiring harness is new out of the box! The ignition was supplied by Pertronix (Flame Thrower) coil and electronic distributor. which perform fantastic. As you will see from pictures the complete wiring harness is new and was supplied by Painless harness. Lights. ignition and turn signals each have their own relay for extra protection. The two barrel Weber carburetor is self sufficient. meaning its all electronic and performs very well for this collaboration. Very responsive. With the engine completely rebuilt and ready for install. we got ready for power coating the axle housing. sending out the leaf springs for re arching. ordering new axles and one new rear diff. Once frame was set in place. we began the new brakes lines. with wheel cylinders and rubber brake lines. With all in place we took apart the transmission and transfer case to examine any potential repair that was needed. We replaced seals and made sure all gears were fully synchro to specs. Needless to say. we were on our way to build an amazing truck. Engine mated up to transmission on the frame with axles back in place and its a rolling chassis! Now is crunch time! Body back and painted British Racing Green with a beautiful Ivory top. Once the body was bolted down with stainless steel nuts and bolts plus washers. we were ready for all the new turn signal lights. installing the dash to work properly with the vehicle and making sure all proper fluids were topped off. Of course we got a complete new exhaust system for it as well. Within a few days she was road worthy and receiving many thumbs up plus on lookers with their cell phones!! Flash & Flash!! Napa. etc. I do have the oil cape and many parts that comes with the truck such as the rear bench seats. Here are some additional things I forgot to mentioned in my description. new window seals. shocks. brakes. drive shafts rebuilt. master cylinder and gas tank. i do have the original floors. but we decided to go with a nicer diamond plate.
