Clean,completely rust-free California 2004 Land Rover Discovery IIS.Originally sold new at the former Cole European Jaguar-Land Rover dealership in Burlingame (now Cole European Land Rover in Walnut Creek), t still resides here in temperate northern California, here it has lived its entire life, EVER having seen snow or ice, nd much less salted roads. It scores a 48 in AUTOCHECK out of a 21-53 rating range.
The 2004 model isthe last year of theDiscovery Series II ( which replaced the aging and more primitive Discovery Series I which itself came out in 1993 in Europe and debuted in the US in 1994, o its final run in early 1999 wheneventually replaced by the DII in the latter part of 1999).
The most desirable Discovery to have, ith all the revisions and updates unique to only the03' and 04' models, he 2004 being the only one that came factory-equipped with the desirable CDL ( Central Differential-Lock) system.
Chassis, ll body panels, ndercarriage, LL inner/ outer sills, eams and welds are 100% RUST FREE. You cannot find that anywhere in the Midwest and definitely not in the East coast!
SolidDiscovery Series II, ompletely stock. This S has the beefier factory roofbars( unique tothe 2004 models only),as well as thefactory Tow package ( although nothing has been towed with it).
Niceset of factory16" alloys ( same utilized on the G4s),with aset of radial tires with approximately 75% tread on them ( these are the preferred wheels for a DII as theyallow for larger tire displacement).
Stock 4.6L engine runs but unfortunately, his one is due for a head-gasket replacement, ormal for all Discoverys.My original intent was to drop a Td-5 motor I already have, r perhaps just drop in another 4.6L in it, ut at this particular time, y plans have changed and I am going to focus my efforts on finishing my 66' 109. Plus I still have my 87' 109 Stage-1 in hibernation.
My local LR independent is able to do a complete job ( to include full teardown and assembly, achining of the cylinder heads, il change, oolant service and new plugs) for $1800.
I had debated as to whether to do it, ut as I am tied up with other projects, have not. This is an option that is available if you desire to not tackle it yourself, nd I am more than glad to help coordinate such. His work is guaranteed and he provides a detailed invoice of all work performed. He's been in business for 25 years and I have known him as long.
Or, f you are handy with tools and like wrenching a bit, his is a straight-forward 10-hour job like on any other V8. $350 forcylinder head machining; $150 for a head-gasket set; $85 for a set of head bolts; $100 for all fluids, il filterand new plugs. The rest islabor. That simple. Some guys prefer to just drop another motor in ( or do 4.2L or 4.0L conversions), r tear down the motor and mike the sleeves. Lots of options. For $2450, ou just cannot go wrong.
I am also an avid Land Rover enthusiast, ot just another seller. I have been around them for 35 years andstill own two others ( including a 66' 109 I am very slowly restoring).
This S is a solid, leanDiscovery.Well travelled but solid, nd completely rust-free as any California DII should be.
BEWARE of any "low-miles" Discoveries; chances are, hey sat somewhere due to hidden or unresolvedmechanical issues. These vehicles were made to be used, nd most have been driven as any Land Rover would be expected to.
Automatic transmission shifts well into all gears. Differential lock feature works well. Low and High differentials engage like they are supposed to. Four-wheel Power disc brakes,Power steering ( no leaks), ower windows andPower seats (theyboth work).NO troublesome SLS or ACE systems to contend with.
The A/C system works well and blows nice and cold.Rare solid roof model, hus no sunroof leaks to deal with. Dual Power heated-seats. All four windows and both Power mirrors work.
This is anice example of a lateDIIthat looksgreat despite its vintage. The coachwork is in very good condition, ith no dents ordamage.Occasional parking lot dings. Nice hoodwith NO fading of the clearcoatfrom sun orexposure, common ailment on all Discoveries.
It issolidthroughout.Its original, eautiful Bonatti Gray factory finish still glowsnicely and it is invery good condition considering its age.All doors, anels, ood and trunk line up perfect.
The original bone / tanleather upholstery is in above-average condition and has held upwell.Some wear to the outer bolster area in the driver's bottom seat, s expected from age, s pictured. No tears, ips or seam splits.Clean interior, oor panels, actory carpetingandtrunk area. FactoryLand-Rover black carpeted mats front and rear. NON SMOKER vehicle always.
ThisDII hasa clear California title and it is currently registered through2016. FREE AUTOCHECK report available on request.
