Description

We would like to present this rare, actory prototype 1995 NAS Land Rover Defender 90.

Portofino Red over Moorland cloth interior, his unique Defender started life at the Land Rover factory in Solihull England as an early 1995 Soft Top spec. As part of the second batch of '95's to be produced, his D90 was given the R380 manual gearbox rather than the LT77. It was then sent to Safety Devices to help them design the mandatory roll cages for the upcoming Station Wagon version for the North American market. This has been confirmed with Safety Devices and, n fact, his exact D90 was later loaned back to Safety Devices, long with the original soft top, hen they had a problem with one of their jigs that had gone out of alignment.

The Defender was then kept at the factory, itted with the new Station Wagon hard top and used for testing and validation purposed for the next two years. Our letter from John Riley of Land Rover Traceability confirms this.

At this stage, ost factory prototypes get destroyed. Given it's overall completeness and excellent condition, his one avoided the crusher and instead, n 1997, as sold to Jonathan Rogers of Rogers of Bedford Limited, n independent Land Rover Specialist, ith about 1,000 miles on the clock. We have contacted Jonathan and he remembers the D90 fondly. John kept is in the forecourt of the dealership and used it as his toy for about 12 months until, fter constant badgering, e sold it to a local gentleman who worked in the aviation industry. The buyer asked John to convert the Defender to an automatic. He was reluctant at first, iven it's factory history and significance, ut eventually agreed only if all genuine Land Rover parts and trim were used giving it a true "Factory Finish" whatever the cost. It is impossible to tell it apart from any other 1997 NAS Defender 90 automatic.

Satisfied with the results, he new owner kept it in the UK and took meticulous care of it for the next 6 years. Many of the original service records exist, ncluding a stack of UK MOT test certificates.

in 2004, he gentleman got married and moved across the pond to British Columbia, anada, ringing the Defender with him. It was imported in May of 2004 and, ddly, hows on some documentation as a 1996! This is quite rare as there was never a 1996 NAS Defender. Some of the included service records also show it as a 1996 - an obvious typo at one point during importation that was later corrected.

The Defender changed hands one more time when the current owner moved back to the UK and sold it to a gentleman in Calgary, lberta in 2012. This gentleman enjoyed it for the past 4 years and continued to service and maintain it to a high standard. He decided he would prefer a soft top for summer cruising and that's how we came to own it.

I had it imported to the US and titled here in Oregon. You will also see in the photos it wears all the proper federal emissions and DOT stickers as it was always intended as a US market vehicle. Unlike other NAS Defenders, he badge on the back is blank as this was not a numbered vehicle.

Although already in wonderful condition, e have spent the past two months repairing a few minor items and making it truly exceptional and ready for it's next owner. For Jonathan, raham, ohn and myself, e hope this one finds the right owner to go with it's special history.
