This is the car that started a production run that spanned 18 model years without one body panel change. They may seem pretty common because of 18 years of reliable German production. You can see this STYLE almost everywhere you go but not this MODEL. This is the model that started it all and is the rarest of the rare. To find one for sale in this condition at this price is nothing short of a miracle.
For sale is a beautiful example of this very rare 1972 450SL. Runs perfectly; fast as hell. Car is correct with proper restorations made when required. Hard top included. Garage kept, ovingly cared for. It's about 5 minutes from a complete, actory floor restoration. Just needs someone to take it over the goal line. I've been working on it for a while but it's time to move on. Minor imperfections but they're a couple of little pimples on a supermodel.
I've got over $15,000 in the car but the kids don't fit in it. Not safely, nyway. Some tiny stuff needs attention but it's the little minor things that will make the car yours. I'm not a dealer. I'm just a regular guy with an awesome classic car who needs something a little more family-friendly. You are encouraged to see & drive it.
Oh, ne more thing. The smell of the interior features a heady fuel aroma that brings you back to the days when cars had balls and could drive through walls. Stepping into the car is like stepping back in time. It should go without saying that this beauty has had no accidents, as a clean title and is ready to drive away today. If you useBuy It Now, 'll have the car fully detailed/clayed & I'll fill the tank with Premium for you before you pick her up. Just start the engine & drive away at 100mph.
The Mercedes-Benz SL name has always signified a certain level of automotive style and sophistication, nd each new generation seems both to define and be defined by its era. Such was the case when the R107 model SL came on the scene in 1972 as a replacement for the popular 230/250/280SL W113 series. The family of models existed with minimal changes until 1989, remarkable production run for a luxury convertible.
The first-year cars were dubbed 350SL in keeping with the model designation for Europe, espite actually carrying a 4.5-liter V-8 underhood. The fuel-injected V-8 features an overhead cam and delivers 230 horsepower. It is paired with a three-speed automatic, ith no manual transmission on offer. Suspension is fully independent and four-wheel disc braking is standard.
For the first model year only, 72 models were badged as 350SLs (original badging is intact) in the United States even though they were equipped with the larger 4.5-liter V8 designed specifically for the U.S. From 1973-80, he designation was changed to 450SL. 1972 were equipped with smaller bumpers shown here - VERY RARE. All U.S. 450SLs had 3-speed automatic transmissions.
