Up for bid is a 1997 Black and Tan Mazda Miata with hard top. This is a really nice. well taken of car. Unfortunately. I've become quite the cliche and due to the addition of a new little one. this little gem doesn't get on the road as much as it used to. so it's time to send it on to a better place. I bought the car in 2011 and it had about 55K miles on it. It now has 76. XX. The good:At 57K. had mechanic replace whole A/C system (paperwork included)New compressor. new dryer and orifice tube. and new evaporatorNew Borla dual exhaust system installedNew Kenwood component speaker system installed (new headrest speakers. new door speakers + door tweeters)Installed new clear front bumper blinker housingsNew leather shift bootNew shifter ball. and e-brake handleRight before the 60K tune up. I changed all the fluids myself. including:Oil. rear deferential. transmission. as well as new spark plugs. and new air filterDuring this time. I also changed the shift boots. replaced shift boot fluid. and polished the shifter ball; this thing shifts really. really nicelyI have done most of the oil changes myself. but did have a few done elsewhere when running low on time (paperwork included. also). I've always only used Mobil 1 synthetic for all fluidsHad complete 60K tune up done at 59K miles. including:Replace timing belt. camshaft seal. crankshaft sprocket. idler gear. timing belt tensioner (I had a mechanic do this work)At the same time. the mechanic replaced all four shocks ($200). installed Flyin Miata sway bars ($225). and a FatCatMotors upgrade bushing and shock mount set ($325)It was also during this time that I put on new 15" Konig Helium alloy wheels and new Goodyear Eagle GT tiresI have paperwork for all this mechanic work as well as invoices for all parts except the wheels; not sure where that invoice ran off to. The wheels are currently about $400 for a set before you buy tires*I should note here that even though I upgraded the shocks. sway bars. bushings. wheels. and tires. this car never once been on a track. although I'm sure it would fair just fine with all these added featuresIn May of 2012. I had the windows tinted to 15%In July of 2012. I installed a new battery (receipt included)In August 2012. I installed new brake pads and new rotors on all cornersIn August of 2013. I installed a new radiator myselfIn October 2014. I installed brand new OE floor matsThings left to do:There is an exhaust rattle where the exhaust pipe rubs up against the rear differential; sometimes it rattles. sometimes it does not. It's a cheap fix. but I haven't driven the car enough to worry about it. The Check Engine Light is on due a faulty rear 02 sensor; when new exhaust system was replaced. someone left the 02 sensor wire too long causing it to heat up and short out due to the heat coming off the exhaust; I've been aware of the issue for about 2 years and haven't bothered fixing it. but if CEL's bother you. it's an easy fix on a Saturday morning. When I was driving it regularly. I would still get 24 MPG. easilyThe parking break does not hold very well; there is a small allen nut you turn on the rear brake calipers that adjusts the pressure the parking brake exerts; I've been too lazy to fix it. so this may or may not still be an issue when the car is soldObviously it has a hard top. and there is no soft top with the car. This is a personal preference thing. but if you really want a soft top. you'll have to get a new top and bracket. This car has never been repainted. so while it looks great from 10 feet away. if you walk up to the car and inspect it closely. you're going to find minor door dings. scratches. and general wear and tear from 18 years of use. If you're looking for a show car that's been garage kept and never in a Walmart parking lot. this isn't the car for you. The rear quarter panel doesn't shine up as nicely as the rest of the car. but I always try to keep it waxed and buffed so it looks nice. The leather seats are in really good condition. A few weather cracks in the drivers seat. but nothing major to be worried about. If you're a brand new Miata owner on the market. MAKE SURE you check the rocker panels behind the door and near the wheel wells to make sure the car you're thinking about buying doesn't have a rust issue. Mazda had an odd design feature in which they used drain holes and most people don't regularly check these and empty them of debris. This causes water to build up inside the rails and eventually lead to RUST. so buyer beware! This car doesn't have any of those issues. so moving on. I would not hesitate to drive this car to California tomorrow. Except for the small issues disclosed above. this car is mechanically sound and has already had many parts replaced that will save you money and keep the car running smoothly for many thousands of miles. These are great little cars to drive (and fun!). and if you take car of them mechanically. they will last forever. I do have the title to this vehicle in my hand. A $500 non-refundable deposit is due within 24 hours of auction close. If you don't live nearby and want to have the car shipped to you. I will be more than happy to help assist in the process. If you have any questions. need pictures. or want to come see it. shoot me a message and we will make it happen. Thanks and good luck!
