Here is the link: http://s669. photobucket. com/user/fmattingly/library/MB%20280SL%201969%20White%20CP This is a very nicely restored driver quality 1969 280SL. This car needs nothing and is ready to enjoy with no mechanical issues whatsoever. The car was probably restored about ten years ago and driven occasionally since. I am helping a friend sell this car. he is extremely busy but is available should you want to discuss the car directly with him. These attractive sports cars were highly regarded when new and have remained sought-after classics. Like the previous models. the 280SL has a beautifully proportioned body. luxurious interior and Mercedes Benz ride quality. The Black Mercedes Benz Texture Interior highlights a comfortable cockpit. The car also features an Automatic Transmission. The SL is fitted with a black canvas top and a factory auxiliary hard-top. The hard-top originally came from the factory matching the body in white. however the contrasting black top really makes the car pop. These are probably the nicest user-friendly sports cars from this era. These cars drive and perform wonderfully and have a fantastic ride quality as well as a true sports car driving sensation. Personally. I don’t know how Mercedes Benz achieved that back in the 60’s. but they did. This car performs and handle as nicely as any modern car in traffic. They are very comfortable for touring with or without the hardtop. The Fuel Injected 280SL is one of my favorite cars. The only problem is they are getting harder and harder to find. as many have returned to Europe and collectors are reluctant to let them out of their possession. The 280SL was manufactured from 1968 until 1971. and a total of 23. 85 units were produced during its production run. By today’s standard a VERY low number of cars. making them a true collector car. Producing only 143 units in 1967. the SL soared in popularity. and by 1969. the most productive year. banked at 8. 47 units built. A grand total of 12. 24 models were available in the U. S. . again a very low number. Since 1990 many of these U. S. cars have found there way back to Europe where they are extremely sought after. The nickname “Pagoda” was a reference to the shape of the hardtop roof. Reminiscent of the shape of a Japanese style Pagoda. the roof center is slightly lower than the side. The 280SL utilizes a 2778cc. six-cylinder engine. with a seven bearing crankshaft. Most of the cars were fitted with automatic transmission and the 4-speed manual was actually an option. The SL could achieve a top speed of 121 mph. and could reach 0-60 in 9. 3 seconds. The engine in the 280SL had a mechanical Bosch fuel injection system. a cast alloy valve cover and a single overhead camshaft. The Body-On Restoration started with an absolutely rust free. near perfect-bodied car. The typical trunk area rust was not present and the floor pans appear to be completely original to the car. The body is extremely straight on this car and appears to have never been hit. The factory “dimples” on the insides of the headlights are there. I took closeup pictures of all the shutlines on the car and they are near perfect. The undercarriage is in very nice shape. with no rust or damage. just a little dusty probably from sitting. The car has always been in the South and recently in California and it clearly shows. The engine runs strong through the gears. These cars are extremely user friendly. sporty yet refined enough for a commute in traffic. The exhaust system and suspension is all in excellent shape. The car drives down the road straight as an arrow and stops with ease. There are no leaks or use of oil. The transmission shifts nicely with no issues or leaks. The suspension is in wonderful shape and provides an extremely comfortable ride quality. Mechanically this car is near perfection. These little touring cars are perfectly balanced and uniquely a vehicle with a quiet confidence. with truly no competition. The car is equipped with a wonderful Stereo with speakers in the front and rear. so even with the top down you can enjoy great tunes. This particular vehicle I would call a Solid Show/Driver and with just a little work could easily be a top quality show car. because all the hard stuff is done. The Paint is a strong 8. 5 out of 10; is a two stage paint and shines brilliantly. There are no dings. dents or major scratches anywhere on the body. The rear driver side quarter panel has an odd 7” spot of discoloration that is noticeable in certain lighting conditions and angles. You have to really look to see it but I want to point out everything about the car. If you look at the picture line-up below it is the first picture after the wheel picture at the end of the exterior pictures. The area is just behind the fender lip. I tried to highlight it up close. This is something that could be fixed easily or just left alone as it is really not that visible. The Paint is a two stage paint and shines brilliantly in any light. Front and rear bumper chrome. over-riders and front grille are all nearly a 10. Some of the other trim pieces are in the 8-9 range. I have been judging cars at all types of show levels for over 20 years and have extensive experience in restoration of many makes of cars. I am extremely picky and probably grade more on the lower side when evaluating vehicles. I would consider a 10 on my scale to be a Concour Quality vehicle. just so you have a reference. It is not a concour car but it shows extremely nice and would be a great car for local car events and cruising or even a daily driver. This car is a VERY high quality motorcar. it is a solid #2 car. If you are looking for an extremely nice driver quality car for a lot less than $80K-$120K then this might just be the car for you.
