For the past 14 years this car has been my daily commuter. It has been a fantastic vehicle to own and drive. It has many highway miles as I traveled back and forth from my business. some 75 miles away. but it has been garage kept and is a non-smoking car. Until recently. I maintained the car by the book and have most of the service records. It was always clean and waxed. I had planned to give it to my teenage son for college. but when he said he preferred his pickup. I decided to just drive it as long as I could. Lately. a couple of items have started to wear out and I have not repaired them. The rear shocks/struts are worn and whenever you go over a bumpy surface like a railroad crossing. you can hear them. The ride does not seem to be affected and is smooth on the highway. Also. I think that maybe the power steering pump is going bad. When the car is cold. there is a whining noise that is present when the steering wheel is turned. The noise goes away after you drive it for about a mile. After that. the steering does not seem to be affected. I have driven the car with these conditions for months now without any problems. Unfortunately the transmission recently locked up in third gear. I believe. and now the car can't really be driven over about 40 MPH. I have had a couple of Mercedes mechanics look at it and they both have told me that with this many miles on the transmission. I just need to replace it. I purchased another car for my everyday use and now need to find a new home for the S600. I really hope a Wheeler - Dealer kind of person will buy it because even though there are a lot of miles on the car. it really looks great. Someone with Mercedes repair knowledge and access to parts can fix this car up and have a ride that still looks and runs like the $140. 00 car it once was. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
