WITH TRENDS FOR THIS AUTO ON THE RISENO RESERVE ON THIS INVESTMENT!!!I PICKED THIS UP TODAY AND WAS TOLD IT WAS DRIVEN DAILY UP UNTIL 2007 BY AN ELDERLY LADY AND THAN WAS SOLD IN AN ESTATE SALE WHEN SHE PASSED IN 2007. I DO BELIEVE THE ELDERLY MAN THAT I PURCHASED IT FROM. HE JUST SEEMS LIKE AN HONEST PERSON. HE TOLD ME HE KNEW THE LADY SHE WAS LOCAL AND SHE HAD IT AS LONG AS HE COULD REMEMBER. SINCE HE HAD HE DROVE IT FOR A WHILE AND THAN IT BLEW A HEAD GASKET. HE PARKED IT AND IT SAT FOR THE LAST 7 YEARS. THE CAR ALTHOUGH HADN'T BEEN TOUCHED IN YEARS STARTED RIGHT UP TODAY WHEN I GOT THERE. HE RAN IT OFF A SMALL GAS CAN THAT'S STILL ATTACHED. BY-PASSING THE CARBURETOR. HE SAID THE CARBURETOR NEEDS ADJUSTING AND HE COULDN'T FIGURE IT OUT. ON TOP OF THAT HE KNEW THE GAS IN IT WAS BAD FROM SITTING. THE CAR ACTUALLY BLEW MY MIND. IT WAS EXTREMELY QUIET AND THE IDLE WAS SMOOTH NOT MISSING. I WAS NOT EXPECTING THAT. HE SHUT IT OFF AND I LOADED IT ON MY TRAILER 5 HOURS LATER HERE I AM. THE BAD I SAW UPON MY INSPECTIONVISUALSURFACE RUST AND PITTING ON BUMPERS AND CHROME GRILL MOST WOULD POLISH OFF WITH A WHEELPAINT APPEARS TO BE ORIGINAL AND FOR THE AGE EXCEPTIONALOBVIOUSLY BEING A 1958 THIS IS NOT A CLEAR COAT BASE COAT PAINT JOB IT DOES HAVE A LIGHT HAZE OR FOGGY LOOK TO IT. BUT STILL REALLY NICE IN MY OPINION. COULD BE BUFFED TO LOOK EVEN BETTER. BUT I AM ASSUMING WHO EVER BUY THIS WILL RESTORE IT ANYWAYTHE HOOD IN THE BACK WHERE IT MEETS THE WINDSHIELD IS BENT ON BOTH CORNERS IT LOOKED LIKE IT FLEW UP AS SOME POINT FROM NOT BEING LATCHED AND BENT. THE HOOD IS A 1 PIECE WITH GRILL ATTACHED. ON BOTH SIDES OF THE RILL THERE IS RUST AND HOLES GOING THROUGH THE FIRST LAYER OF SHEET METALIT IS A VERY HEAVY THICK MULTI-LAYER HOOD AND CAN DEFINITELY BE REPAIRED. THE QUARTERS. DOORS. TRUNK. HOOD. TRUNK LID. ALL LOOK SOLD. LINED UP PERFECTLY. ALL CLOSE AND OPEN FLAWLESSLY. THEY LATCH EFFORTLESSLY. THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR DOES HAVE MUD. AND SURFACE NOT DEEP. OR HOLES BUT LIGHT MUDDY LIKE SURFACE RUST. NOT A SERIOUS CANCER THAT I SAW. THE TRUNK AND FLOOR PANS THAT I COULD SEE LOOKED GREAT. ALL THE CHROME TRIM LOOKED GREAT COMPLETE NOT BENT OR MISSING. THE ENGINE LOOKED FAIRLY CLEAN. AND AS I SAID BLEW MY MIND AT HOW FAST IT TURNED OVER. HOW QUIET AND HOW SMOOTH IT RAN. IT DOES NEED A HEAD GASKET FOR SURE. HE TOLD ME THAT. I ALSO SAW THE OIL WAS A LITTLE MILKY. ALSO KNOW THE CARBURETOR NEEDS TO BE REBUILT OR ADJUSTED. THAT'S WHAT I WAS TOLD. THE TRANSMISSION I AM UNSURE OF. HE SAYS IT WORKS LIKE A TOP. HOWEVER WE DID NOT MOVE THE CAR. OR ATTEMPT TO DRIVE IT DUE TO THE HEAD GASKET. I DIDN'T WANT TO RUN IT LONG OR PUT ANY STRESS ON IT. ITS A 4 SPEED MANUAL WITH A CLUTCH AND THE SHIFTER ON THE COLUMN. I AM NOT EVEN SURE HOW TO DRIVE IT. TIRESOLD. DRY ROTTED ONLY 2 HOLDING AIR. THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE IS GOES COMPLETELY FLAT IN MINUTES. I THREW A CAN OF FIX A FLAT IN IT AND AIR JUST TO LOAD IT. IT WAS UP WHEN I PARKED IT TONIGHT AND HELD FOR THE FEW HOURS DRIVE. WE CAN AIR IT UP AND GET IT LOADED TO WHO EVER BUYS IT. BRAKESTHE PEDAL WAS SOFT AND THE BRAKES WHERE NOT WORKING. WHEN I WAS UNDER THE CAR HOOKING UP THE TIE DOWN STRAPS. I SAW SOME NEW LINES AND FITTINGS RUNNING TO THE FRONT WHEELS THAT DIDN'T LOOK THAT OLD. HE SAID THEY WORKED LAST HE DROVE IT. WINDOWSREAR PASSENGERS WINDOW IS SHATTERED. HE DON'T KNOW HOW IT HAPPENED. THE GLASS IS ACTUALLY STILL IN THE BACK SEAT. THE REST OF THE GLASS LOOKED GOOD. INTERIOR THE INTERIOR. HEADLINER. CARPETS. SEAT ALL NEED TO BE REPLACED. OR FIXED DEPENDING ON YOUR PLANS FOR THE VEHICLE. BUT EVERYTHING IS THERE. ALL IN ALL THIS IS A GREAT CAR FOR RESTORATION OR EVEN WITH JUST A LITTLE WORK A FUN DAILY DRIVER. WE GOT NOTHING BUT BEEPS. LOOKS. QUESTIONS. AND SMILES ON THE TWO HOUR DRIVE. THE PICTURES I HAVE ON THIS LISTING ARE THE CAR JUST BEING PULLED OUT AND LOADED AT THE PLACE I BOUGHT IT TODAY. THE CAR WAS NOT CLEANED AND THEY WERE TAKEN WITH MY CELL PHONE. IT REALLY IS A BEAUTIFUL CAR WITH PLENTY OF POTENTIAL. I MAY WASH IT AND DETAIL IT IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS. FIX THE FLAT AND TAKE SOME BETTER PICTURES. ONCE AGAIN IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE ASK BEFORE BIDDING. BELOW IS EVERYTHING I COULD FIND ONLINE ABOUT THE AUTO. I AM BY NO MEANS AN EXPERT ON THIS CAR. I'M JUST PASSING ALONG THE INFOI FOUND. Part of the "Ponton" family. it featured a 2. 2 L inline 6-cylinder engine. History[edit]The ponton body shape had been introduced in 1953 by the W120 chassis 180. In the following year. Mercedes-Benz introduced the 6-cylinder 220a which was visually similar to the 180. but with 70 mm added to the front wings to accommodate two extra cylinders and 100 mm added to the rear doors to provide some extra legroom for the rear passengers. This model ran until 1956 when the 219 and the 220S were introduced. Model identification[edit]The 219 from the a-pillar forward was identical to the long-nosed 220a. including the single-carburettor 2. 2 L 6-cylinder engine. However. from the a-pillar back. it used the shorter body of the W120/W121 180/190 models. This can be identified by the one-piece windows in the rear doors. as opposed to the 220a and 220S having separate quarter windows. Inside. the 219 used the simpler instrumentation of the small car. along with bakelite trim instead of woodgrain. It was also available as a diesel model. Two cabriolets were offered from 1949. with 2+2 seating and five-passenger layouts. A more modern six-cylinder. 2-liter. 220 model joined the Mercedes lineup from 1951 to 1955. The car had faired-in headlights and could be ordered in sedan. Cabriolet. and coupe guises. The Mercedes-Benz 300S “Adenauer” sedans (named for the German chancellor) were built from 1951-57 and aimed at heads of state with limousine and four-door Cabriolet options. Mercedes-Benz’s first all-new post-war design was the “ponton” – that is unibody – design of 1953. Offered as 180 side-valve and 180 diesel and later as a 190. with a 1. 9-liter OHC unit and a diesel. it had flow-through fenders and six-seater body and resembled the contemporary Chevrolet. Once again a much more useful 2-liter. six-cylinder 220 series appeared with the same body in 1954. A convertible and coupe appeared in 1955 and are quite sought after today. These are durable cars. though not as iconic a design to most enthusiasts’ eyes. The 220S offered twin carburetors from 1956. the same year as the short-wheelbase 219. and a fuel-injected 220SE was offered in 1958. These are not without rust problems. and the over-arching concern that they are all over 50 years old. Sporty relatives of the Adenauer 300 sedans. a 300S and 300SC coupe and Cabriolet were offered from 1951 to 1958. They had classic prewar styling and proved to be useful performers. The 1956 to 1958 300SC models were fuel-injected. with dry-sump lubrication. and actually cost more than the accompanying 300SL Gullwing. Only 760 of all models were sold. and they are near the top of postwar Mercedes collectability today.
