In 1987 this new 560SEC was purchased from Mercedes Benz and immediately dispatched to Coach Builders Limited in High Springs Florida for the Cabriolet conversion. At the time there were 3 quality companies in the world doing the 560SEC Cabiolet conversion. There was a Swiss company (I believe the name was Bahr. but not sure) which did an excellent job but the conversion had a retracted top that stood up very high and was considered "ugly" at the time. There was a company in California named R. Straman (they actually converted a 1977 Ferrari 400 into a cabrio for me in the day). The third company was Coach Builders Limited in High Springs Florida. Coach Builders did by far and away most of the conversions (I heard at the time nearly 85%). The mechanics and overall work they did was magnificent. They used a state of the art plasma cutter that was so fine that there was almost no paintwork that was needed. In 1988 if you had one of these cars you were a tycoon. magnate. royalty. mogul. industrialist. financier or other captain of industry. Treat yourself NOW!
