A very presentable and complete driver quality 1961 Mercedes Benz 190 SL roadster. with soft top and a 4 speed manual. showing 81. 78 miles. An older restoration was completed in 1989. The options are now open to keep this as a driver or restore it at your own pace. Either way. you will have a beautiful convertible that will draw lots of attention and is appreciating in value. This is the “Little Brother” to the 300 SL and the first uni-body Mercedes-Benz with steel chassis and aluminum hood. trunk lid. doors and dash. Minor changes were made for each year of production and 1961 was the year seatbelt anchorage points were fitted. I’ll do my best to describe the car as honestly as I can having inspected it myself. The body is straight and solid and there are some flaws in the paint. The chrome looks true to form with some pitted areas. Solex carburetors were swapped to more reliable Webers by a previous owner. Many typical spots where you would check for rust look sound (jacking points. mounts for rear trailing arms. boot spare tire well. eyebrows and wheel wells). The boot floor pan is rusty and will need replacing. The battery tray has surface rust. The original Becker radio is non-functional. Basic controls are working (choke. lights). but auxiliary controls need some attention (ventilation. wipers). The rear view mirror glass needs replacing. The soft top is sound. but with some wear and a couple nicks in it. I haven’t covered everything here. but hopefully this along with the photos gives a fairly accurate idea of what you are getting. This is not a garage queen or show car - all areas should be scrutinized and addressed in due course. As mentioned. what you are getting a sound driver quality 190SL (some may describe as a “10 footer”) you can work on at your own pace. The documented history for this 190 SL shows it was imported to Canada from Ohio. USA in 1988. and purchased by a serial collector in Ontario. Canada. Over the course of the next year. the car was stripped to body and restored with few expenses spared. At the time. the mileage was 69. 03. Following this. the car was purchased and spent the next 25 years of its life with the previous owner in Atlantic Canada. From the photos. you can see the VIN and body numbers.
