1981 MERCEDES 380 SLC COUPE,1 OWNER,51K ACTUAL MILES,JUST SERVICED,VERY CLEAN Up for sale is a 1981 Mercedes 380 SLC coupe. This is a true 1 owner car with 51,000 actual miles. I purchased this car from the daughter of the original owner. Her family owned several new car dealerships in the town I grew up in on Long Island, ew York, ncluding a franchise Ferrari dealership. Her dad bought this car brand new in 1981 and kept it in his private car collection at his Mansion on the North Shore of Long Island. He retired and moved to Florida about 10 years ago and left all his cars in the garage and they all have sat since then. A fewmonths ago I flew to New York to buy some Ferrari's from the collection and found a garage full of low mileage cars from the 1980's that were all time capsules and I wound up buying all the cars.
I had the car shipped back to Arizona before even attempting to start it since it sat for so many years. I had the fluids and filters changed, nstalled a new battery, uel pump, uel filter, ew brake pads front and rear and anything else it needed. When we started it up I could not believe how smooth this car runs. I have had many, any Mercedes over the years and have not had one that you can't even feel running when it is at idle.
The paint is mostly original and has never been in an accident. It shows well and has plenty of shine but has some minor cracking in it which is typical of 34 year old paint. You really have to look hard at it to see any imperfections. The interior is stunning and really held up well. Even the dash board has no cracks in it which is very rare to see. Everything we tried on the car seems to work well including the air conditioning which blows cold. The matched Michelin tires have plenty of tread left but would recommend changing them due to age. They seem to be from the late 1980's.The only non stock items on the car seem to be chrome plated factory wheels, hrome fender trim and European headlights.
Mechanically it runs, rives, hifts, urns and stops well. It really is a time capsule car and has been stored indoors and well maintained its entire life. These hardtop 4 seater SLC coupes have always had a cult following. This is a great car with an equally great story/history.
