Description

You are bidding on a 1983 240D which is the last year this model was sold in the US. I bought the car new in November of 1982 and have been the owner ever since. My family and I have put all 351,000 smoke free miles on the car, o I know it well. The car has always been garage kept and is in remarkable condition as far as being relatively rust free. This car lived its life in the Annapolis, D area until 1999. Since then it has been living in Brunswick County, C. The car was my daily driver until about 2003. Since then it has been a very occasional use car. Since 2005 it has gone less than 7000 miles - that's about 700 miles per year. Even with that infrequent use, still maintained the items that needed attended to on a time basis. For example the brake fluid was flushed every two years and the coolant was changed every three years using approved fluids. I have maintenance records going all the way back to my initial purchase, nbsp; You can see an example of the type of maintenance records I kept in the photos attached and in the text below. I was so diligent on keeping records on this car that I have a record of every fuelfill uptoincludinga calculation of mpg dating back to 1982.
Includedwith the car is the owner's manual packet in the original plastic folder, ll of themaintenancebooks that a do ityourself-erwould need are also included. These maintenance books are the very hard to find paper editions. Also included are a few small boxes of spare parts, asteners, crews, tc. that I gathered over the years. A few filters are also included. I believe I also have a half axle that I have had for about ten years. The air conditioning system is currently out ofFreon, o I will also include four cans of R12refrigerantand a can of compressor oil. The air conditioning system has been out ofFreonfor at least ten years and since I rarely used the car in hot weather, just never bothered to attend to it. I did add a can or two of Freon before a trip several years ago and the system worked fine until that charge leaked out. My belief is that there are some seals and maybe a hose that needs attention. I cannot guarantee that any of the major components don't need replacing, ut since the dealer installed a new compressor, eceiver/dryer, xpansion valve and seals in 1998, y guess is that a seal and/or a hose is the culprit.
Keep in mind that this car is thirty-two years old, o there are going to be some things that are not perfect. The air conditioning was mentioned above. There are two other items that I feel I need to let you know about. There is a small fluid leak that marks its spot under then engine. It isn't bad enough that I have had to add oil, ut I feel that it needs to be mentioned. That's not an unusual thing with an older diesel. Alsothere are times when the rear driver's side floor pan gets wet in rainy weather. Since the rear floor pan is lower than the front, ny water intrusion from the front makes its way to the rear. This is not an uncommon issue with the 123 chassis, ut I have not found the cause. Theundercarriageis solid and pretty much rust free, o there are no holes in the undercarriage that I could see. I also looked for missing grommets in the firewall and couldn't find any. It seems like there are no leaks when the car sits out in the rain, ut the wetness only seems to show up when the car is driven in wet conditions.
The car starts on the first try and idles perfectly. Oil pressure builds up quickly and it runs well.
There you have the good and not so good about the car. If you have any questions, ant to see and drive the car or if you would like more photos of a particular area, lease let me know.
Shippingarrangements and shipping cost completely the buyer's responsibility. The car is at my home, o I will certainly be available if needed to help get the car on a transporter.
Thiscar is also being advertisedelsewhere, o I reserve the right to end the auction at any time should it sell.
Here is an example of the type of maintenance log I have used since 1990:
