Up for grabs is my Black 1998 Mercedes SL500 with rare factory AMG sport kit (Level 2). Non- Smoker Car; clean!
HIGHLIGHTS:
•Bi-Xenon (HID) lamp package
•Factory ordered Panoramic Glass Roof option (Rare and expensive; these tops fetch $2500-3500 alone here on eBay typically!), uite exhilarating experience compared to the standard top.
•Orthopedic seat option
•ESP option
•Low 88K miles. Literally the full highly optioned SL500 offered in 1998.
•Last year of the hotrod M119 4 valve/cyl 5.0 liter engine. In 1999 they went to a simpler engine design with slightly less power. Also; this is one of the very last 1998 Model year SL500’s (6/1998 build date)
•Virtually All service records since new (all done at MB dealer!) - Includes folder full of Genuine MB receipts.
— Repairs and services between 2006-2015 alone Total over $20,000!
•New within last 3,000 miles while in my possession: -Michelin Pilot Sport AS/3 Rear Tires installed on the staggered Factory "Monoblock" wheels. These tires were expensive @250/ea. Front Tires were already replaced at around 80K (only have about 8K miles on them; also Michelin Pilot Sports)
-Front Brake Rotors and Pads (Genuine MB)
-Professionally Restored ($$$) OEM Becker BE-1692 Audio system (pristine/New cosmetic appearance; and in new operational condition; with warranty).
-New Genuine Bose replacement (from Bose HQ!) door speakers also installed. Sounds amazing! Factory Bose Subwoofer and amps all working great (as well as the Genuine MB cd changer in trunk)
-Cam oiler tubes replaced (these tend to go on the later M119 engines and need replacement/ I paid to have it done). Engine is silent - no ticks, tc.
-New Motor mounts (OEM Febi Bilstein)
-New OEM Bilstein Struts and Shocks all around (and, ew OEM German “Corteco” Strut mounts!)
-New Genuine MB HD All-Weather Rubber floor mats - perfectly contoured and contains the Star logo in the corner.
Interior and Exterior Condition and Overview/Walkaround: - (I try to be very detailed - probably more than I need to; but I like to be the "eyes" and ears for anyone who's looking at this great car!)
————————————————————
INTERIOR:
•Grey Interior, ’d say “8-8.5/10” condition — minor wear on drivers seat “exit” side bolster. no rips or tears.
-Minor plastic surface paint wear near the grab handles of door panels (can be easily retouched, n truth it didn’t bother me in the slightest)
-Grey Plastic decorative “caps” near top latch/visor assembly corners have a crack/chip on both sides. usually on these cars they are missing altogether - for me it wasn’t something that distracted my attention
-Rear view mirror has very minor crack on side of the outer grey plastic housing.
-NO cracks on Dash - Dash itself is excellent; supple and in fine shape!
-NO cracks or blemishes on Burled Walnut wood center stack/console! fine, ich color and gloss! Plastics here are also in great shape!
•TOP/ROOF:
-Panoramic Roof in great shape! Original Black paint and the glass itself in great shape! ZERO cracks or blemishes in glass. ZERO leaks. All seals in great, upple shape! Retractable sun shade also fully intact and operational! . Been thru 5 automatic car washes with not a single drip or wind intrusion. its great!
-Soft Top (factory black) also in excellent shape! Rear “glass” (clear vinyl) was replaced/renewed by MB dealership some time ago; and Soft Top was hardly ever used since — preserving its’ “Newness”. Retracts and installs great without any sealing issue. And no Tears or sun fade.
-Hydraulic release/actuation system all works great! Releases and Locks every time without fail.
-There is an occasional minor hydraulic fluid leak near the Visor latches (minor as in a few minor drops), owever it only happens if you activate the top release, s the system primes up. I was advised that its a simple o-ring replacement in the latch actuators behind the visor -- and since i rarely removed the top - (the Panoramic top is so nice as it is!) it was a non-issue. Estimate to have a shop replace the O-rings would be about $300-400 dollars. Or you can get the O-ring kit online and just do them yourself. Apparently fairly easy. Of course; when you aren't removing the top; you won't see those minor few drops. It still works fine.
•EXTERIOR:
-“8.5-9/10” Condition; Gloss Black is great; a couple very minor (casually not noticeable) parking lot scrapes on bumper corners. All factory paint. 2 extremely shallow minor bumps/“indentations” on hood, ot casually noticeable.
-Original MonoBlock wheels are in Very good shape - no real road rash; just minor wear around the edge - not casually noticeable beyond 5 feet away.
-Original Factory MB Glass all around in great shape! Clear, rack free! (Retains the original “Genuine MB Product” sticker in the corner)
———————
•MECHANICAL:
-5.0 Liter M119 4-Valve/Cylinder engine Starts, dles, uns flawlessly.
-New Motor mounts installed; no vibration!
-5-Speed Automatic shifts great! No operational issues noted. TCM and harness was replaced by MB dealer a few years back (typical weak spot for the 722.6 transmission). Local shop recommended a tranny mount replacement in eventual future to alleviate an occasional minor external clunk.
-Suspension is great! I replaced all shocks and struts and mounts with genuine Bilstein parts! Supple Ride.
OWNERSHIP:
•3-owner Car.
-I’m the recent 3rd Owner. 2nd owner had last 10 years; from 2006 (since approx 20k miles) until late late 2015 at 84k miles when I purchased. I purchased as a spare “weekend” car.
(I’ve got 2 other cars)- I came into some money and it was a bit of an indulgent purchase for me; I’ve since moved earlier this month and this is now an extra unneeded car that I literally do not have space for at my current residence anymore to justify keeping it. Maybe you can give it the deserving home it needs!
Clean Oregon Title, itled/registered in my name.
ACCIDENT HISTORY:
Car has had (3) very minor/casual incidences -- And the paperwork shows its all minor. Bid with confidence!
There was a crack formed in the front bumper (License Plate bracket area)by owner #1 in 2004 due to a parking incident. Was reported but never repaired due to relative minor appearance detriment. Second owner had this crack/damage professionally repaired in Sept 2008 after the crack had become more noticed. Additionally in 2011 Owner #2 caused a small hole in the rear bumper to occur also due to a slow speed casual parking mishap at home- this was reported and repaired via insurance. Paperwork backs evertyhing up - Owner was good about keeping records! Panoramic Glass and seals on the top were also replaced/refreshed in 2011!
NOTE: Car was not detailed prior to pictures - but will be fully clean upon sale. More Pictures are happily available to anyone interested - it is currently raining here in Oregon (some pictures will reflect that) but I will do my best to photograph anything of interest to anyone! Ebay limts to 24 pictures on the Page but I'll email anything you would like on the back end.
Happy to sell internationally as well -- Standard eBay selling disclaimer: Vehicle is sold As-Is, hipping is the responsibility of the Buyer; and I will be happy to assist in making sure a swift and easy pickup of the Mercedes is provided; with the car shipper of your choice.
