Description

Nothing you've ever driven will prepare you for the experience of this 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG. It's insanely fast, yes, but the amazing part is how effortlessly this ultra-lux roadster hammers down the highway, apparently defying the laws of physics. Better yet, the grin it plasters on your face won't fade once you park it, either. With just 56,402 miles on the clock, this top-of-the-line Mercedes-Benz still looks virtually new. The aggressive bodywork was heavily revised in 2009 and the AMG guys added their usual aggressive touch. A deeper front air dam, bigger grille, and vents galore identify this Autobahn missile at a glance and it pushes slower traffic out of the way as if it were fitted with a plow. Fit and finish are legendary and with a sticker price that was more than $125,000 when it was new, I guess you should expect near perfection. It still looks like money on wheels and it pretty much guarantees front-row parking from the valets. The silver shimmers and looks like it's still wet and the fit of the panels is precise, as you'd expect from this Teutonic hammer. Obviously, paying this much for a car means you take care of it so the finish is in excellent condition with only a few signs of use and, well, it still makes one heck of a statement. AMG gives you a few perks inside, but even the standard Mercedes interior is a spectacular place to do some work. The deeply bolstered seats are an AMG upgrade and there's more technology in here than in the space program. Beautiful instruments are in a unique hooded instrument pod framed by a multi-function steering wheel with paddle shifters. Everything is, of course, standard equipment and it all works properly, which isn't surprising, either. It's as comfortable and easy to use as any daily driver, and if you never crack the throttle, you'll never even know what lives underneath. Instead, it's comfortable, supremely competent, and a pleasure to drive. You'll probably have to study the owner's manual for a while to figure out all the features, but that seems to be appealing to Mercedes buyers at all levels. The folding hardtop disappears in a matter of moments yet seals up as tightly as a hardtop, making this truly a no-compromises supercar. a 5.5-liter V8 artificially inflated by a supercharger, the towering performance is also immensely accessible. Crack the throttle at any speed and the car lunges forward like it wants to eat the car in front of you, and if you keep your foot planted long enough, you'll knock on the 160 MPH door (the computer kills the fun at 156), all with Wagner arias on the stereo and A/C keeping everything cool. The transmission answers the helm when you click the paddles, but it's just as fast to let the computer do it itself, and with the way this thing gathers momentum, you really should keep both hands on the wheel and just keep it aimed straight. Fortunately, the cross-drilled brakes are also insanely powerful and look spectacular behind those giant AMG wheels, which carry fat 18-inch Bridgestone radials. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own an A-list luxury performance car for pennies on the dollar. Even today, it's shockingly fast and still looks like money rolling down the road. Call now!
