Description

NO RESERVE - 1977 Cognac Brown Mercedes Benz 450SL Convertible 108k original miles. 4. 5 V8. As the link below explains. the value of the '77 450SL convertibles is steadily increasing. The later 70's 4. 5 V8 models are particularly desirable; the engines have higher compression and increased horsepower and the body has lots of chrome accents and bumpers that follow the trim and contours of the body; new for the 77 model year the SL was fitted with a continuous fuel injection system. as well as transistorized ignition which increased throttle response and MPG as well as being more reliable overall. The technological improvements after 1976 greatly increased the overall reliability of these great little Roadsters. http://www. hagerty. com/price-guide/1977-Mercedes~Benz-450SLMechanical: The SL has always been regularly maintained by the dealer. even the oil filter has the MB logo. The car is powerful. smooth and quiet. just a pleasure on the highway cruising along at 75. All the maintenance is up to date and the car is registered and on the road. The tires have good tread and the brakes were recently done. The power windows all work well as do the wipers and horn. The a/c has not been retrofitted. it works at about 50%. The engine has great pickup. the 4. 5 V8 is powerful and quiet and the transmission shifts properly. on the highway she'll get 17-18 mpg. Cosmetic: The car is always garaged; I had taken it out the night before taking the photos with the top off and it got a dusting of snow. I was going to get shots of the soft top up but then it began snowing AGAIN. It's been a tough winter! The SL was repainted about 20 years ago and looks great. The soft convertible top was replaced at the same time as well with a genuine MB heavy duty top. color coded to the car with the same color and is still in great shape. The plastic windows are clear with no cracking but there are a few small tears in the canvas at the "fold spots" from the top being down all the time. The hard top bolts down firmly. the car is perfectly quiet inside on the highway with the windows up. The interior is in very good condition; no rips or worn areas on the seats. door panels. carpet. console or rear section. The passenger headrest has a seam opening up. The chrome bumpers and brightwork are in great shape. no dents. scratches. pitting or fading. they shine brilliantly. Everything lines up properly. the doors close easily and the hardtop comes off and bolts back on on properly. all the locking mechanisms function as they should. I bought this 450SL because of the low mileage and the fact that she's the most solid. rust free 450 SL I found. 1977 Maple Yellow Mercedes Benz 450SL ConvertibleAs you can see in the pix I've also got my wife's 1977 Maple Yellow 450SL for sale. 4. 5 V8. low original miles. 128k. We're open to reasonable offers. as finances force us to sell them. This one is in similar condition to the brown one mechanically. Cosmetically she's got a brand new. show quality interior. Mechanical: The SL has always been regularly maintained by the dealer. with the last visit totaling over $2000 in miscellaneous maintenance and repairs; new hoses. new alternator. a/c system retrofitted to modern freon. new section of exhaust. and new valve cover gaskets. The cruise control system was repaired as well. an actuator under the hood was replaced. Recently the shifter will intermittently not go into park so I've been setting the emergency brake; my mechanic told me the linkage needs adjusting or it may need a new bushing. The power windows all work well as do the wipers and horn. Cosmetic:The SL still wears her original paint and is presentable but unless you've just waxed it it looks dull; it looks good in the photos but the car could use new paint. There are some small bubbles forming in the paint down at the rocker line but overall the car is solid. The hardtop is perfect with a new headliner installed when the interior was done. The soft convertible top's plastic windows are beginning to get brittle and crack. The hard top bolts down firmly. the car is perfectly quiet inside on the highway with the windows up. The interior was redone by the previous owner aboout 5 years ago and is in showroom condition; everything was reupholstered and the seats got genuine German leather and were re-cushioned. every bit of padded carpet. vinyl and trim is brand new. The headliner. door panels. visors and entire rear section were redone with all Mercedes materials. The interior was done by a shop that specializes in European cars. it's immaculate; the total for the interior restoration was over $2500. The previous owner had planned on getting a restoration quality paint job after doing the interior. The Pirelli tires have good tread but are beginning to show some age. The chrome bumpers and brightwork are in nice condition. Both of these cars have always been dependable and garaged. they're both a pleasure to drive. No leaks from either car. the garage floor is always dry when I take them out. Overall. they drive like European classic luxury sportscars should. When you look at. get into and drive these 450SL's they have obviously always been perfectly maintained and have spent their lives as "Garage Queens". Obviously this auction is for the brown 1977 450SL. this is NOT buy one get one free. I know it seems obvious. but some people need things spelled out. I am willing to sell either one or both as a package. This auction is for the brown 1977 450SL. My wife and I are huge fans of the 450SL's. if finances weren't an issue we would be keeping both. As you can see in the background of the pix. I've got a few cars too many!I reserve the right to end the auction early as both 450SL's are for sale locally and I'm open to reasonable buy it now offers as well. I can assist with shipping in the USA or internationally if necessary. cost of shipping to paid by buyer. I can recommend a door to door auto shipper I've used many times in the past; they're professional. reliable and have great rates. NO RESERVE auction. the winning bidder gets this classic European roadster. Any questions feel free to email or call 914-224-3230
