Up for sale today is a 1980 Mercedes 230TE W123 station wagon. These are quite rare in the U.S., not intended for export, being a "grey market" car. This has been in the family since 1984 bought from a militay guy, we are the second owners. It has 340,000 + miles on it. It starts right up and runs clean. The top end was done about 80,000 miles ago, the rest of the engine was checked out at that time and was found to be in good shape. Well maintained it's entire life. The transmission shifter doesn't work quite right, it isn't the transmission itself but the shift lever, which wants to detach itself from the socket.. Window regulators worn out, especially the drivers. Passenger door glass broken, it has a piece of lexan in it. Driver's side floor plan rusted out, showing signs of rust throughout; it lived in Bellingham for a few years with my sister so it has seen it's share of moisture. Driver's door dented, rear dented. It has some goofy electrical stuff going on with the headlights and tailights, a few high mileage quirks such as having to turn the ignition switch back just a bit for the accessories to function etc. I would say that this would be an excellent parts car for someone who needs a good drivetrain, or it could be restored if one was so inclined and overly ambitious. I considered putting it in the "parts car" category but it is still fully functional, if somewhat quirky. Newish tires. New starter. Please look at the pictures and ask questions, Thanks and Good Luck!
