I don’t believe that one person has not at some point lusted after a Mercedes Benz SL!! They have and always will be the standard to which other luxury convertibles are measured by. From the early incarnations of the SL that bring over 1-million-dollar price tags to the current SL’s they are something to be appreciated like a fine sculpture. The R129 chassis was the first major overhaul in the SL line up for some time. And rightfully so, why fix a good thing when it’s not broken! With the make-over came a car that was now a bit longer, a bit wider and with the availability of the AMG models, it helped bring us back to the SL’s original luxury/sport feel and appearance. Unique to the R129 chassis is the first offering of the Mercedes V12, which started as the 600 SL in 1993. As the model progressed in the years starting in 1989 and running through 2002 there were some improvements and some subtle differences, but as Mercedes has always done the car remained basically un-changed the entire model run of 13 years!! As you can see below our example of the SL we are offering is very much a perfect example of the subtle changes and the unique options that Mercedes offered its SL clients. We can start with of course the amazing V-12 engine that was used in the SL600, this is the second generation of the V-12 so HP was boosted slightly along with TQ. Going over the rest of the car you will find that this owner opted for the AMG appearance package, which included a more aggressive styled front bumper, side skirts and rear bumper, and of course the iconic AMG MONO BLOCK WHEELS, that have become synonymous with performance in the Mercedes world. Something that will catch your eye and rightfully so is the PANORAMIC GLASS HARD TOP, this was a very very rare option for the SL and was quite expensive even when considering the window sticker of $127,000.00, even on the used market these tops’ are going upwards of $2,000.00!! This car was fitted with the adaptive suspension along with the upgraded sound Bose sound system. The original owner left very few boxes un-checked when ordering this amazing SL and it shows. The service has been kept up to factory standards, and the car just received a set of new staggered tires recently. With this being a 1997 the dreaded wiring harness issue that some of the SL’s suffered from is no problem here as the 1995 model year saw the correction to that. All the is really left to do to this car is enjoy it! As it is becoming a modern day collectable the prices will only continue to climb!
