1965 Mercedes Benz 230SL Convertible .

The Mercedes Benz 230SL was first introduced at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show. Daimler-Benz launched a new sports car to replace the two outgoing roadsters: the legendary 300SL and the popular 190SL. While stylistically similar, their respective design concepts were vastly different, so it proved to be quite a challenge to create a new common denominator. The new SL was a synthesis of the two previous models which set new standards in driving dynamics and safety. The new SL, known internally as series W113 was the first sports car ever with a rigid passenger safety cell along with front and rear crumple zones. The body design was characterized by its removable, concave shaped hardtop, which also gave it the nickname “Pagoda”

Motorcartrader.com is thrilled to offer this stunning 1965 Mercedes 230SL Convertible. We purchased this great car from a gentleman who owned this car for about 20 years. As we understand, he was the third owner of this Pagoda. Overall, a very nice driver to be enjoyed. Some highlights on this great car:

  • Excellent Running and driving Mercedes 230SL. A truly, wonderful sports car to drive. The clutch feels great, brakes stop well and the transmission is very smooth.
  • Brand new major shift linkage kit installed.
  • Brand new Michelin tires
  • Brand new heater fan and motor.
  • Great compression (warm) of 140 to 150 across all 6 cylinders.
  • All matching numbers as confirmed by the Mercedes Benz Factory Data Card with original engine.

  • Steering wheel recently restored restored.
  • Brand new Retro radio installed with “Becker” look but better functionality.

  • Solid and rust free underside with original floors.

  • A solid and straight body with no signs of poor body work.
  • Recently serviced with fluids checked and changed including the rear end service (side boot replaced).

  • Originally Light Blue with Dark blue interior.
  • As we understand, this car spent most of its life in the Carolinas.

This is an excellent higher end, driver quality car. It is not a “trailer queen, but it needs nothing to be driven and enjoyed. These Mercedes 230SLs are excellent investments, as they have been appreciating. The Mercedes 280SL has very much taken off in value after being undervalued for so long. These Mercedes 230SLs are great cars and still available for reasonable prices as this one is and are certain to appreciate as the 280SLs have.
