Description

Let's address the obvious first: this is NOT a concourse E55. It has rust on the outer body panels. minor damage in the driver's rear and a large dent on the driver's door. I believe all of it could be easily addressed by any competent body shop. The paint is OK with some scratches and a blemish on the rear passenger door. The underside. is amazingly clean and and free of rust on the floors and frame rails where the Mercedes factory undercoating is still intact. EDIT: I've received quite a few questions regarding rust on the front strut towers and front spring perches. Both are rust free. I did not buy this car to fix or win beauty contests. I'm an avid car enthusiast with 4 other cars that I avoid driving in the NJ snow and salt. When this E55 popped up for sale in December last year at the ATM money price of $2500 I couldn't refuse as it presented an opportunity to drive something inexpensive and interesting all winter long. And that's exactly what I've been doing. So far. I've logged roughly 4k miles pressing this into service as a daily driver. and it hasn't hiccuped once. I've started on sub zero mornings without any check engine lights or other issues. The car has been dead nuts reliable in all driving conditions: long distance highway (250 mile round trips). stop and go traffic. idling while waiting at the train station. etc. Basically. whatever conditions were present as part of my daily grind. this car did it and put on a smile on my face while doing it. You've noticed the mileage. Mechanically. the car is excellent. The engine uses no oil and pulls good and hard at any RPM like an E55 should. The torque is simply phenomenal and shames many newer. higher HP cars. The transmissions shifts smoothly and selects drive and reverse quickly. even in freezing cold temperatures on a cold start. The brakes pedal is firm and the OEM rotors and pads haul the car down from speed with authority. The suspension has some clunks over bumps at city speeds. but at highway speeds the car is silent and tracks straight and true with no shakes or shimmies all the way up to extra legal speeds. The rear muffler has rotted through and sounds glorious: people pay $$$ to get their car to sound like this. Play the soundtrack for a 60s muscle car while accelerating and you get the idea. When cruising or at highway speeds. everything is quiet. Exactly how I like my cars. The inside of this E55 was well preserved and is a nice place to spend time. The seats are soft and supple with no tears or cracks in the leather. The steering wheel leather is nice and not all gritty and worn. The center armrest is also virtually blemish free. All the wood paneling is crack free and the ashtray. center console storage lid. and cup holders are all fully functional. The headliner is nice and not falling down. The front seat backs are free from scuffs and scratches. This car is equipped with a fully functioning electric rear sunshade which will undoubtedly be nice on hot. summer days. I'm told we might see summer in NJ if we're all very patient and say nice things about our weather men and women. Power windows. locks. seats. sunroof. alarm. rear sunshade. both heated seats (these get nice and toasty) and instruments all work without issue. This E55 was optioned with the rare orthopedic seats - they are currently NOT working and I've haven't attempted to troubleshoot. 2/3 readouts beneath the instrument cluster are missing pixels. The center one - the important one that shows the odometer. fuel info. oil level. etc. - is fully functional and not missing pixels. The other two showing transmission gear. time. and outside temperature are missing pixels. The automatic climate control is fully functional and works on all fan speeds and all functions. The only issue is the night backlight for the climate control panel is out. I'm told the AC works. but obviously with the arctic weather. cannot verify. All exterior lights. including Xenon headlights and foglight. are fully functional. This is a no reserve auction. and I've set the start price BELOW what I paid for it. I'm not looking to make money on this car. It's served me well and has served its purpose. At stated above. if you're handy with body work. you could have yourself a nice running / driving E55 with a clean title priced well below any other E55 on the market. I've done my best to describe the car both honestly and accurately - if you feel I've missed something. or just want to talk cars. feel free to contact me. The car will be sold with the 17" Rial wheels and Nexen Winguard snow tires pictured. The stock AMG wheels and tires are available at additional cost. I have two remote key fobs with new batteries and all functions work. Mileage will go up as I continue to drive the car. but will be within reason. No road trips. Happy bidding!
