Description

Up for consideration is this 1989 Mercedes-Benz 300SEL sedan. Commonly known as the W126. this series of the S-Class is the most popular S-Class on record in terms of units produced and its 12 year production run from 1979-1991 is the longest in Mercedes-Benz history. There were 818. 05 sedan versions of the W126 built with only 40. 56 (5% of production) receiving the 300SEL designation. The 177hp 3. 0L Inline 6 under the hood is widely known as one of the most built proof engines and able to travel well past 300. 00 miles with just regular maintenance. These S-Classes are known for their luxury and they featured every luxury and power options available at the time. This model was designed as a long-wheel base. it has ample rear passenger room. This car is offered for sale by the original owner. It has been and is parked in the garage with a car cover over it. The exterior is in very good shape. These are a couple of small dings on the left passenger door. (A result of shopping carts. I think). The paint is very bright. well maintained. freshly waxed but does have a few small scratches. (result of rose bushes along the driveway. and a cat who jumped on the roof escaping the neighbors dog). There is no rust on the body!! The vehicle has NEVER been in an accident! The interior is in very nice shape. The leather is all in good shape. the front seats. console armrest. and headrests having been replaced a few years ago. They match the rear upholstery exactly. The only item inside the vehicle which does not work is the clock. I purchased a used clock. which had been reconditioned. but never had it installed. (The clock is included with the car. along with some other parts I'll list later). There is a multi CD player which was added a few years ago. The control was attached using velcro. so if you wanted to remove it. no damage would be done to the interior. The CD player is mounted in the trunk. Mechanically the car is very sound. About 10. 00 miles ago. I noticed the car temperature to be running a bit higher than usual. As my wife had intended to keep it forever. nbsp;I took it over to our local Mercedes dealer. The overheating was result of a leaky cylinder head gasket. and oil had gotten into the cooling system. The following items were then replaced:Cylinder head and all necessary gaskets and seals. radiator. nbsp;all cooling system hoses. overflow tank. nbsp;water pump. fan belts. We also replaced the cooling fan as it was a bit noisy. They did a complete tune-up. including replacing all the fuel injectors. spark plugs and wires. The AC was not cooling as it had. so we replaced the AC compressor and clutch. drier. and of course charged it with fresh refrigerant. The AC is COLD! They additional checked the steering and suspension. that resulted in replacing all the ball joints. tie rods. and drag link. including the front shocks. The rear brakes needed replacing so calipers. rotors. and pads were replaced as well. The last parts that were replaced were a result of the annual smog test required in this state. So we replaced the entire exhaust system including exhaust pipes catalytic convertors. tail pipes. and O2 Sensors. And of course the fuel cap. Passing the annual Smog inspection is NO issue now! This set of repairs cost us about $12k. nbsp;but my wife had owned the car since it was new. and at the time had planned to keep it forever! I have all the invoices to show the repairs which have been done. The car runs extremely well. It does not smoke. makes no noises under the hood. and after the injectors were replaced the acceleration is phenomenal! It is a solid car. sturdy as Mercedes is known to make them. With the repairs made to the suspension it handles excellently both on the freeway and around town. The only thing I notice is a small transmission leak coming from the transmission pan. The tries are in very good shape. and we have them balanced and the alignment checked about every 6 months. The only reason we are now selling the car is that we are both retired and don't drive as much as we used to. So it now sits most of the time in the garage with a car cover on it. We take it out now and then. drive it just to keep the battery charged and the fluids fresh. I mentioned earlier that I have some additional parts that will be include with the car. That will be the clock. (which I mentioned earlier). and alternator. and set of OE front brake pads. The car comes with 2 sets of the original keys and original owner's manual. I replaced all the exterior lights. Both front turn signal lamps were replaced as the lens had become a faded amber over the years. The rear tail lamps have been replaced with a late model euro style lamp. white lens. with amber bulbs. rather than the OE amber lens. The headlights have also been replaced Chrome Euro Headlights with LEDs by Anzo®. Although I've posted a number of pictures. if there is something else you would like to see. some other angle. just drop me a note. I've tried to make every effort to represent this vehicle accurately and with integrity. I've tried to be accurate in my description writing we are human and do make mistakes. The vehicle is sold AS IS. No Warranty Expressed or Implied. Pick up is your responsibility. I will not ship or deliver the vehicle myself. However. if you want to ship it. I'll work with your carrier to make it as easy as possible. I've recently drove the car to a local independent used car dealer who specializes in Mercedes. He reviewed the car inside and out. His opinion was that it was valued from $7500 to $9500. Based on the estimated value. I am starting the auction off at a low opening bid. My wife wants it to go to a good home. where someone would appreciate it and take care of it as we did. If you have any other questions. or an offer. please drop me a line. If you are local and would like to see. or drive the car. please let me know. A $500 deposit is required within 48 of end of auction. (We will accept Paypal for this deposit).
