Description

1978 Mercury Zephyr Wagon. If you want a hot rod that you can take the whole family along this is the car for you. Areal sleeper!
We started with a super dry and clean California V8 wagon. The 5.0 engine was completely rebuilt. Block bore 0.030 over, COMP Cams Xtreme Energy XE268H, Lunati timing chain, Flo TEK aluminum heads, roller rockers, ARP fasteners, Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gap aluminum intake manifold, Demon Speed Demon 650 cfm carb, MSD Ignition Digital E-Curve Pro-Billet Distributor, Flowtechceramic-coated headers, aluminum water pump, and much, much more. These are just the highlights. In keeping with the sleeper theme, the stock valve covers were massaged to fit and engine was painted original blue and topped with what is left of the stock air-filter cover.
The C4 automatic transmission was determined to be fine so it was treated to B&M shift improver kit and an 11" TCI Breakaway torque converter. Differential is a posi-trac with 4.10 ring and pinion.
Weld-on subframe connectors were installed.
The car has line-lock that is activated by putting the column shifter all the way down in low. Electric exhaust cut-outs and B&M Pro Stick Shifter. We also used the widest steel wheel/tire combination we could fit under the car, with the stock hub caps of course :).
The body and paint are excellent. About the only flaws are on the hood, the center has been re-painted at some time and has a crease where somebody had tried to pull the hood shut without lowering the strut. You can see both of these issues in the last 2 photos.
Interior is in equally great condition. Only issues being a small tear on front seat and the dash top has been discolored by the sun.
We have put approximately 6,000 trouble-free miles on the car since we finished it. The car is fun, fast, and loud (if you want it to be) with the headers un-corked. This car gets smiles and thumbs up from nearly everyone who sees it. I have a folder full of receipts and paperwork.
Please let me know if I can answer any question or get you any specific photos.
