This is one of only 2300 Cougar convertibles produced in 1970 and it is a very decent driver quality car. The top is recent between two and five years old, previous owner installed it. Interior is very decent as well. Seats don't show any tears and carpet is ok. The dash is good as well. Door panels just need a speaker cover. The floor boards were repaired by an amateur it seems with what looks like new floor pans. I would consider re doing the amateur job if I was restoring the car, but it is solid for use as a driver.
This cougar came original with a 351 windsor with a 2 barrel carburetor. Currently there is a later model 351 engine that runs well. This car also has a later model AOD automatic transmission. The engine and transmission make the Cougar a decent interstate cruiser. The car has a weak front end, but I have all the parts to fix it and they come with the car. I would install myself, but I can't find the time to start that project. Exhaust is a 3 inch and nearly new. The installer left the cross plate off because of room issues, so an adjustment needs to be made. It is not an immediate concern.
Headlights work and the headlight covers raise without an issue. This car is a driver with an older paint job and several dents in the hod and scratches all around. I don't see any major rust on the car, but inspection is recommended. Expect a few small spots that may need small patches. The front passenger side fend is a little bent up from somebody driving over a parking block. No sure if it can be straightened out or if it will require a new fender all together. Enjoy this car as is or put a little bit of work into it and have a restored vehicle. Call Jay with any questions at 405-550-2440
Marti Report is pictured. Tells a nice story of what the car was like when it rolled out of the factory. This is a great vehicle to make your own as it is not an original motor car and many other aspects like paint and interior have been changed.
