Description

Detailed item info Model OverviewBMW unveiled a much-anticipated redesigned MINI coupe for 2007 and though the exterior won't seem markedly different to the uninitiated (a few inches longer. a few inches wider. a slightly altered belt line). all the fuss is warranted once you sit inside. The punchy all-aluminum inline-four was reengineered and is now rated at 118 horespower in normally aspirated form and 172 hp with the turbocharger (versus 2006 ratings of 115 for the base and 168 horsepower for the formerly supercharged S). While the power increase may sound nominal. the extra horses are much smoother courtesy of fully variable valve lift and timing. The S also benefits from a lower torque curve. with 191 lb-ft at 1600 rpm (versus 2006 ratings of 162 @ 4000). making its power more readily accessible. The end result is an even livelier car. Handling revisions include a tighter rear suspension with aluminum longitudinal shafts and a standard Sport Button which allows the driver to opt for improved acceleration. increased steering response. and swifter gear changes when paired with the automatic transmission. Bigger front and rear disc brakes have also been introduced for 2007. Visually. MINI offers more color combinations than ever before with a new line of optional interior trims. Further allowing buyers to customize their car are two new optional steering wheels. While the iconic mail slot hood scoop on the S remains. it is no longer functional. New standard equipment includes a tire pressure monitor and an on-board computer for both styles. Consistent with the redesign are a number of new options. including keyless go entry. universal mobile phone prep. and Sirius satellite radio. The Checkmate Package on the S has been removed. A Hyper Sport Package and Audio Package are now available. Rounding out the optional equipment are all manner of goodies. including heated seats. a navigation system. xenon headlights. stiffer suspension. park distance control. and dozens of alloy wheels. And if that isn't enough. MINI has a prolific aftermarket and dealer-supported accessories industry. All MINIs come standard with six air bags. anti-lock disc brakes. cornering brake control. automatic stability control. and daytime running lamps. With the new packaging. the Cooper's base price is $18. 50. $600 more than in 2006. The Cooper S lists at $21. 00. $300 more than last year.
