What it is: The car is a 2014 Volkswagen GTI Driver's Edition. The special Driver's Edition is the "Autobahn" model from 2013.The special model features a few unique touches, ike a Golf-ball shaped and indented shifter for both transmissions, ed-edged seat belts, oneycomb pattern doorsill plates, nd honeycomb/aluminum trim pieces.

Exterior: The car is much larger in person than it is in photos. Even though it's a hatchback, t looks very sporty from the outside. The tires are very low-profile, nd the wheels stand out. The red accents on both the grille and brake calipers look nice, nd at the back, he chrome dual-exhaust pipes stand out when they are polished and clean. One other stand out feature is the headlamps. They are very detailed, nd they also have adaptive beams, hich turn when you turn the wheel to illuminate corners better. I have used this feature often and it makes a large difference in visibility. The taillamps are normal bulbs, nd the license plate lights are actually LED's. The wheels on this car are called Lagunas.

Interior: The inside of the GTI is one of the nicest and most premium interiors for the money. There are many nice touches in there, uch as how all the trim on the knobs, teering wheel, indow and mirror controls, nd shifter are all real metal, ot plastic. Everything is well put together, nd everything has soft-touch materials. Also, t's much roomier than most expect in there. I'm 6'1" and I have a ton of legroom and headroom. The seat is moved up quite a bit for me. The seats themselves look very nice, nd they have small "GTI" logos on the headrests. There are 3 level heated seats, nd the highest level gets really hot. The wheel is the most amazing part. It's flat-bottomed, nd the perfect size. It gives great grip, nd the red stitching with the perforated leather gives it a great look. There is also red stitching on the shift-knob, nd the edges of the seatbelts. The pedals, re aluminum-trimmed, ive great grip. Even though the car is premium-feeling, t is quite basic. This goes with the character of the original GTI, nd how it should be a simple and mechanically good car. The light switch has two options-on or off. There are no automatic headlights. The infotainment screen is a good size, nd the GPS is intuitive, nd gets the job done easily. It works great for AM/FM/XM, nd the iPod adapter is surprisingly fast. It even has bluetooth audio. There is a bluetooth hands free system with voice commands. Again, t's simple, ut it works very well. The climate system is also basic. It's single zone, ut honestly in a vehicle this size it would be pointless to have dual zone. There are only 4 fan speeds, ess than most cars, ut each setting gives a perfect amount of air. At night, he controls are lit up red, nd it is very bright. There are ambient lights that also look great, hey flood the cabin with a warm red tone. The gauges are what I specifically love, ecause they don't show the Kilometer speeds. There is a setting in the center display for that, nd it makes the gauge look much neater. They are clear to read overall. The multi-function display is large and has a lot of features, rom all of the basic trip-computer functions to readouts of audio/phone/navigation directions if in use. This is great to minimize distraction, ince everything that is done on the radio unit can be done thru the steering wheel controls to that center screen. There's even a feature to turn on the footwell lights on that screen, ou can even adjust the brightness by percent on there. Ride quality is amazing, t is a very comfortable car to be in. Of course it has a sport suspension, ut it is still very comfortable.

Performance: Even though this car is an automatic, t's a DSG, r Dual-Clutch transmission! The best way to describe it is having two manual transmissions combined into one, here one clutch operates R, , and the other clutch operates 1, . This results in the car having ultra fast shift times, nd in a full manual mode, oth the shifter and paddle shifting feels amazing. There is even a launch control program with rev-matching. It turns the traction control off, nd limits the revs to 3k. It's quite simple to use. Turn off traction control, hift to "S" below D and manual mode, old brake, ev, et go of brake, ires scream! Another nice feature is the ability to downshift in D mode or even upshift if you feel like doing so. This will last for 20 seconds and then the car will go back into D. As far as the engine goes, he GTI features a 2.0 Litre turbocharged L4. It puts out 210HP and 207 Lbs/Ft of torque. There isn't any turbo lag either. The throttle is extremely responsive, nd acceleration is great. 0-60 counts in anywhere from 5.7-.6.0 seconds, ithout modifications. Great power band from the engine, nd a great engine note. One thing I dislike would be what's known as a "Soundaktor", hich is basically a speaker in the engine bay that makes the car sound more powerful and muscular. Handling is great on this car, ut that is expected on a car this size. Overall the car is incredibly stable in poor conditions, uch as heavy rain or roads with black ice. There isn't much understeer from the FWD layout, hich most other cars of that layout have. There is a cross-differential system (XDS) in the GTI that transfers power to either wheel depending on conditions. The system works great. The brakes feel great, nd under heavy breaking the car remains very stable. There isn't any leaning from the front end under breaking. Suspension is sporty yet comfortable, nd under hard cornering the GTI doesn't lean at all, he car always remains level. All the performance tests were demonstrated on the test car.
