Rare And Beautiful 1948 Nash Tow Truck !!! This totally restored Nash tow truck is in amazing condition. And, t is completely functional.I purchased this Model 3148, 948 Nash tow truck in 1986 after which it under went a 5 year complete restoration of the mechanical, ody and interior elements In addition the truck has just under gone a mechanical check-up and is in excellent operating condition. It has logged approximately 500 miles since the restoration.
Between 1947 and 1955 Nash built 4,998 Haul Thrift trucks including every type of commercial body applications. Of the total it is believed that 200 were tow trucks while the balance of the production was for corporate use and export sales. The production break down is as follows:
1947 - 1281948 - 1,0521949 - 6761950 - 7141951 - 1,0141952 - 9191953 - 1901954 - 2891955 - 16
The truck weighs 4,810 pounds and has a 133" wheel base. The 6 cylinder 7 main bearing overhead valve engine has a displacement of 234.8 cubic inch and generates 99 horse power at 3,400 rpm. The transmission is a Warner-Gear T-97 4 speed with power take off for the hoist. The tow bed is by Ashton. Brakes are Lockheed -Double Anchor front and Timken-Detroit Dual Primary with aHydrovac booster serving the dual rear wheels. Steering is manual. The truck will cruise comfortably at 40-45 miles per hour. On its first post-restoration outing to a Nash Car Club of America National Meet it traveled over 200 trouble free miles.
The truck is painted in the official Nash colors with medium steel blue fenders, ight cream body and red lettering.
There are only 3 other Nash tow trucks registered with the Nash Car Club of America, ll unrestored. It is likely that this is the best in the country and is one of the rarest of its type.
