Description

1969 Oldsmobile 442 "Rare Original code 52 Red car" Opportunities like this don't come around very often. Every true 442 guy knows it is very hard to find an original numbers matching documented 1969 original paint code 52 red 442. According to the previous owner this classic has been sitting parked inside his garage for the past 20 plus years. This Big Block 400 was treated to occasional lubrication of the cylinders over the years of it being stored. but never started. I made this purchase with a buddy in a package deal in upstate Wisconsin. but there is documentation of it originally starting existence in the Fargo area of North Dakota. When it was prepped last week to be started for the first time in all these many years. it did fire right up except it was very loud. The exhaust needed to be replaced. so we had the new dual exhaust done this past week. There are all new pipes running from the front of the rare original W and Z exhaust manifolds directly straight back to the brand new Turbo Thrush dual mufflers with short pipes running out the back. This 442 does have the original cut-out rear bumper. nbsp;although adding the correct trumpet exhaust tips will be left up to the new owner. This car is being sold as needing a restoration where everything on the car will need to be gone through to bring it back to its former glory. If you are looking for the correct numbers matching real 344 code 442 to restore then this may be the perfect candidate for you. All of the 442 stainless steel chrome body side molding is all there. All four of the expensive stainless steel wheel opening moldings are also on this 442. and in very nice condition. The bumpers seem straight. and the original 442 grilles look in very good condition. There is a very nice drivers quality chrome remote drivers side view mirror. We didn't notice any evidence of this car ever being involved in any accidents. with the exception of a spot on the right rear quarter panel. That area does have some novice bondo repair on the passenger side in front of the wheel well behind where the passenger door closes. These doors have very nice seams at the bottom of the doors. and open and close very nicely. We do believe every panel on this car can be used. so we both personally believe this is a fantastic candidate to receive a well deserved restoration. The paint on this 442 looks like it's mostly original. but has some blotchy areas due to the age of the vehicle. However. this body does look really straight. Remember. a car only comes original off the factory production line once. We both checked the engine block numbers and verify it to be the original numbers matching block. This car has power steering. and power brakes. It does start right up and the brakes do stop the car. We are unsure of the firing order. so we do suggest that all the mechanicals are gone through by a professional. We are including all new spark plug wires. a new distributor cap. new rotor. and new spark plugs. We also suggest that all of the fluids are changed. Once those parts are installed correctly this 442 should purr like a kitten. This 442 will drive right up on a car transporter or a trailer. but we would not suggest driving it any long distances. The prior owner said all the components are correct to the car. The front bucket seats are the originals. and they appear in relatively nice condition. The rear seats are also the originals. We would rate the overall condition of the interior as drivers quality. The original factory AM radio is still mounted in the dash but is not hooked up. The area where the radio is in place was never cut up to make an aftermarket radio fit like was typically done back in the day. If the new owner can find an original AM/FM stereo it will still fit properly in the dash. and be a nice upgrade. but the dash pad will need to be replaced. There is one patch on the drivers side front floor pan. but the balance of the floor pans are the originals. nbsp;and from what we have seen they have never been replaced. The entire undercarriage looks in very good condition including a nice frame. There is a new set of four black carpeted floor mats. The rear-end is a 12-bolt. nbsp;but we are not sure what the gear ratio is. There are rear boxed control arms and the front and rear sway bars are all in good condition. This 1969 Original 442 sits on a set of four Remington 235/70SR14 inch raised white lettered steel belted radial tires with good tread mounted on 14 inch Super Stock II wheels painted to match the body color. All four wheels have all four bolt on center caps. nbsp;and all four beauty trim rings. The original trunk floor is in really nice condition as seen in the pictures. The trunk floor was covered with spatter spray to make it appear factory correct. The trunk includes a full size spare tire with the original jack. jack stand. and crow bar. This way once this baby is back on the road. if you ever have a mishap. you can avoid being stranded. Here is what all collectors dream of. Included in the glove box is the original 1969 Oldsmobile owner's manual. 1969 New Vehicle Warranty Information. nbsp;and the original Protecto-Plate. It also has the "Get a little personal with your Oldsmobile" pamphlet showing all the options available in 1969. There are not one but two broadcast sheets to verify that this 442 is the real deal. Additionally there is some further documentation from the previous owners not shown in the pictures. but will be provided to the lucky winning bidder. These older classics that have survived for over 40 years are becoming harder and harder to find. The Nada Classic Car Price Guide that anyone can look up on line currently has a genuine 1969 Oldsmobile 442 with the 400/325 horsepower engine listed at $53. 75 in high condition. which they consider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored. or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices. $33. 95 in average condition. which they consider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint. trim. and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a 20-Footer! They have the lowest condition value at $22. 40 being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration. but mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car. but would be considered as the price for a car needing a complete restoration.
