This is a very nice South Gate. California-built 1957 Olds. It was restored from an excellent one-owner rust-free car in the early-1980's and stored inside in Riverside. CA since then. As far as we know it has never been out of California. It is a genuine California black-plate car and has a clear CA title. This Olds is an estate car from a long time Southern California Olds Club member. I am assisting the widow and am a life-long 57 Oldsmobile builder. I have expert knowledge of these vehicles. Many rare NOS parts were used to build this car. Few reproduction parts were available in 1983. It was shown at the 1986 Oldsmobile National Meet in San Jose and many other California shows since then. Today it is still a high 800+ point car. We cannot document the indicated 69. 47 miles. However. I cannot see anything that contra-indicates it. The car has power steering and brakes as well as a Wonder Bar radio. It also has tinted glass. standard dual exhaust and spinner wheel covers. The gold body paint is still very good and will NOT require a repaint. There is one blemish/mar on the rear right side of the hood. The body is very straight. The car was restored to as-built configuration and all numbers match the GM body tag. The tires are Cooper Trendsetter SE's and are more than 10 years old. The brakes are soft after sitting for several years and will need to be freshened. I believe the master cylinder is OK. The under hood area is very clean and presentable but would need a detail and minor corrections to move into the 900 point zone. The outside rear view mirror is incorrect. Both bumpers are very nice - show quality chrome - no negatives here. The lower seat fabric material used in the restoration is not the original. It is close but would require replacement to move into the 900 point level. The upper seat pattern and material is correct. The door panels inserts also use the incorrect fabric but are other wise as original. The black padded dash is the original Oldsmobile installation and is perfect - not one of the poor reproductions that do not have the original crease at the leading edge. The steering wheel is perfect. The engine was rebuilt as part of the 1980s restoration and runs smooth and quiet. It has incorrect chrome valve covers. No issues with engine operation - it is rock solid. I am a mechanical engineer with nearly 50 years experience in building Oldsmobile Rocket engines. This car is one of the four Holy Grail 1957 Oldsmobiles: 98 conv. 98 2 dr HT. Super 88 conv and Super 88 2 dr HT. With some nice Coker 2-1/4 inch WSW tires. correct seat inserts and fresh brakes you could have an upper-end show car very quickly. A final word: this is NOT a distress sale - if the car doesn't sell it will simply go back in the garage until it does. Good day - Pete Clayton831 637-6949
