It’s still surprising to walk around one and imagine what lurks under the hood. Triumph was up against a lot in the 70’s. Japan rattled the fences. Porsche was certainly not settling for less. Leyland came to the table with a wonderful long legged engine. semi-trailing arm independent rear suspension. rack and pinion steering. front disc brakes. 15-inch wheels and pretty beefy tires. and a full complement of instrumentation. It was as if to say. this is what you need for a nice drive in the countryside. now come along. This car pulls like a beast. I don’t have enough points of reference to know this for certain. but something tells me you would not be left in the back of the pack if this car saw a day on the vintage race circuit. It pulls very willingly and has a pretty surprising baritone coming out of the pipes. The inline 6 really is a nice fit for the kind of touring these cars offer. Shifts from 2nd to 3rd and 4th are a joy. It has plenty of power so. cruising along at highway speeds is effortless. Exterior Details – This car came in the factory color code 136. Delft Blue. The city of Delft in Holland is famous for their blue and white porcelain – a nice tip of the hat tribute. It suits the car well and has a timeless quality. The previous owner purchased it in 1991. In the interim. a gentle restoration was done. Underside of hood. door and trunk jambs are all in excellent shape. It was repainted and done to a high standard. The car has only put on 5k miles since. There are signs of use – a small scratch on the driver front fender. a bit of rubbing in the trunk latch area. It shows very well at local shows and events. but you can be at ease actually driving it there.
