Recently off-the-boat from the Channel Islands and now registered and titled in Michigan (awaiting physical title document) some light mechanical refresh (fluid changes, ooling upgrade or refurbishment, nd electrical review) is all that is apparently needed to make this a nice drive.
Here's a video of it driving around the island of Jersey (north of France) last summer:https://youtu.be/D0lYGErHmRc
I had a professional check over of the car once it arrived and this is what he diagnosed for work to be done:
1. Flush cooling system
2. Change Oil and filter
3. Change Transmission fluid
4. Replace Spark Plugs, ires, ap and Rotor, oints as necessary. Set point gap and check timing
5. Install fuel filter
6. Drain and replace axle lube, emove/replace fill plug
7. Replace Valve Cover gaskets
8. Replace RF fog lamp bulb
9. Diagnose and repair reverse lamps
10. Replace Alt water pump belt
11. Replace air filter
12. Weld LF frame where it is cracked
13. Replace all cooling system hoses. Upper Radiator, ower Radiator, eater, ypass
14. Replace or Repair heater core, eater controls inoperable/missing-Repair
15. Remove Radiator, lush, nd/or recore if necessary (sublet to Coils). Install.
16. Wiper mechanism loose/broken repair
17. Dash lights inoperable- diagnose and repair.
I am a late 30's expat Brit hence my liking for stick shift RHD cars, ut this was an impulse buy in February (I live in the snowy wastes of Northern Michigan). I don;t have the mechanical skills to do even these relatively simple tasks and my focus has shifted since February to my little Audi daily driver and I'd like to put a nice tune on that instead.
No trades, o low ballers, nd no stating the obvious about reduced market appeal for RHD. This is clearly a project. Not many of these in the US as they've only just gone past 25 years but they have 50:50 weight distribution and a strong power:weight ratio so might make a nice track day racer.
