Professional award-winning conversion of Porsche Speedster replica with thirty-six 200 amp-hour lithium battery cells powering an AC50 alternating current electric motor that generates 57 kW peak power (about 10% more power than original gasoline engine). Top speed over 100 MPH and exceptional 140 mile range.
Recharges on household 15amp plug overnight. Regenerative braking replenishes battery pack and creates a power brake feel for quick stops in this classic roadster. All new parts, ncluding a heavy duty Porsche 4-speed racing transmission. Includes black tonneau cover, wo detachable side windows, nd retractable soft canvas top.
Superb handling due to 50/50 weight balance and low center of gravity. Leather interior, iberglass body, ike new condition. Always parked in heated garage and never driven in rain or snow. Curb weight of 2009 pounds is slightly heavier than the original gasoline model (but the electric conversion has much better balance and dynamics).
Special digital instrumentation on lower left of driver dash displays amp hours, urrent, oltage, nd other data. Toggle switch on tachometer displays either RPM or electric current (for example, 20" indicates 2000 RPM or 200 amps). The original fuel gauge works too -- it shows battery state-of-charge from "full" to "empty".
Low maintenance: the motor essentially has only one moving part! Just check tire pressure and occasionally brake & transmission fluid and suspension lubrication. Recharges with standard extension cord (charge port conveniently located near left rear wheel uses standard 3-prong plug; on-board charger located under front hood where gas tank was previously located).
Super clean installation. No oil, asoline, r coolant. Electric motor in rear stays pristine. Area under front hood can be used for storage (extension cord, onneau cover, tc.).
Sixteen battery cells are placed in the front hold originally intended for the spare tire (this car has no spare tire). The rear motor bay holds 20 cells in a "saddle bag" arrangement with 10 cells on each side of the electric motor. These lithium cells (large prismatic format) are LiFePO4 chemistry with no heat runaway effect. This means that special cooling or handling isn't necessary. Battery cell life is extremely long, stimated to exceed 300,000 vehicles miles. Two extra LiFePO4 cells are included.
Electric motor controller is programmable so car can be tailored to driver's preferences, ncluding extent of regenerative braking, ccelerator response time, lectric current profile, nd more.
Standard Porsche shift and clutch, ut electric drive makes it even easier. You may leave the clutch engaged at a stop light! The electric motor does not rotate when foot is off the accelerator pedal unlike a gasoline engine, o stop-and-go traffic is a breeze since you don't need to constantly push in the clutch and/or shift into neutral. Electric motors have very flat torque curves; this means that maximum torque is available at very low RPM, o acceleration is nearly instantaneous.
Obviously much quieter than the original air-cooled gasoline engine, ut not silent. At low speeds you can hear the transmission and motor a little, nd above about 30 MPH there is wind and tire noise. A sensational experience on a winding country road!
Gets the equivalent of 125+ MPG and a full overnight recharge costs less than $3 -- that's less than $0.02 per mile, r roughly 90% less than the cost of a gasoline Porsche. This car does not need a fancy recharging station either. It can be recharged using a regular 3-prong extension cord in any 15 amp household outlet (even at Grandma's house).
Although an electric, his car handles very much like the vintage gasoline 356 Speedster. It has the same swing axle rear suspension, he identical shifting pattern (same RPM profile), nd similar power and feel (but better handling on curves and much better braking due to regenerative power of electric motor). Exceptionally fun to drive. This car has been professionally tested for over 1,000 miles, nd is completely ready to drive away.
