Description

1918 Overland Model 90 Light Four Touring Excellent. original presentation of a Light Four Touring! Advertised in 1917 as the better alternative to buying a Ford. the Overland truly set a new standard for durability. better handling. and greater mileage range for drivers! This very sharp example is one of very few you will find on the market today! The Overland Automobile Company was established in 1903 based in Indianapolis. Indiana. With it struggling to compete in a very competitive marketplace. it was later purchased by John North Willys in 1908. It was renamed Willys-Overland with production now moved to Toledo. OH. and by 1912 was the second best-selling automobile in America. They held this title until 1918 with only the lesser expensive Ford outselling them. We are very proud to have this 1918 Overland Light Four Model 90 Touring to present on our showroom! Finished in traditional Medium Green with Black fenders and matching Black cloth folding convertible top. this very striking example really attracts the eye! Under the hood lies its original 179ci L-Head inline 4 cylinder engine making 32hp and equipped with factory electric starter. The ignition system was converted to a coil/distributor ignition versus the factory magneto design for more faithful operation. Additional features include 3-speed transmission. factory 4. 00:1 rear gear ratio. electric lights. painted artillery style wood wheels with accent pin-stripping in white. rear-mounted spare tire. Stewart speedometer/odometer/trip gauge. Autolite amperage meter. tilt-out dual pane windshield. and wood steering steel equipped with throttle and distributor levers. The rear passenger compartment is fully carpeted and fitted with an assist rail for easier entry & exit. Once seated. the floor possesses a foot rest for added comfort. All four doors are fitted with a padded armrest and interior storage pockets. It was easy to see why these magnificent cars made for sound competition against the Ford Model T. Offered in approximately 7 different body styles. Overland had a fit for nearly all personal consumers. Granted. they were slightly more expensive. but with nearly 50% more horsepower from a very strong 4 cylinder engine. easier starting & operating characteristics. and better suspension for touring. it certainly wouldn’t have been hard for salesmen to win over new customers! This example retains a 6-volt system. original Overland script headlight lenses. nickel plated headlight bezels. windshield frame. radiator cap. and wheel hub caps. Coming from another large museum collection in central Missouri where it was displayed for the past 6 years. it continues to start and run with ease today! The paint and body show very well with much gloss throughout! The soft cloth convertible top is free of any damage and comes with boot cover when folded down.
