Description |
---|
I bought the car YEARS ago (2008, think) and it was in pretty rough shape but running fine. I live on a very steep hill in San Francisco so after driving it for a few weeks I realized I needed more power than the factory 48v system. So I bought a 72v ES-40D-6 D&D motor, ine new 8v batteries to power it, rand new D&D controller, ew tires, ew brake pads, ew parking brake cable, ew charger, ew kill switch, nd on and on and on. . .
I spent weeks under this thing and dropped at least 2.5K on renos, ot to mention the 1.75K I initially paid for the car. I got it running very FAST (a little faster than I ever anticipated. . .or really wanted) and the torque easily got me up steep hills with two people in the car. Then I got really busy with work, eft the country for a few months at a time, ame old/same old. I returned and drove it for a few months until the brakes started getting buggy. Then I put on new pads, achined the rotors, ll that. It helped. When I got back I built an electric cargo bike that carries anything — groceries, urfboards, umans — anywhere I want in San Francisco more easily than even a pea-sized C-Car.The poor Commuta, nfortunately, as been sitting ever since. Last time I tried to drive it the rear brake started leaking fluid. And the ignition switch was broken. And i just don’t have the time or space to fix it up anymore.
So, ere we are. I’m not looking to recoup everything I put into this thing. I'm a realist. The upgrade to 72v was an enormous pain in the butt but it's all done now, nd was working great, ust needs to be troubleshot by someone how knows his/her way around electronics. The batteries have been semi-regularly charged, hey were only “used” a few times and well maintained; the motor is, asically, nused; same with controller and tires etc.
The City just gave me 30 days notice to redo my sidewalk (jerks) so it's given me a kick in the butt to get this beast moving.
I’m bummed to be giving up on this strange and somewhat idiotic piece of auto history, ut, ell, ll things must pass.
THESE CARS ARE STREET LEGAL THROUGHOUT THE US:Hundreds of people drive them. You can find fellow C-Car chaps at the C-Car Yahoo Group and inquire about insurance/titles/etc.
