Due to too many projects and not enough time we have decided to put our little Metropolitan up for sale, hich we have named Mervyn ( Met owners like to name their cars!).
My wife wanted a Metropolitan that she could drive, o after a very long search we found what we thought was the perfect car- A Met with an automatic transmission!
Mervyn is a California rust free car. We have one of the original black plates as well. The conversion was very well done, n my opinion. He was fitted with a Chevy 153 ci engine, hich was redone prior to the install, nd mated to a powerglide automatic. The motor is solid, uns well, nd puts out around 120 hp, hich makes for much better power and driving on todays roads compared to the 52 hp of the stock motor. This set up does not weigh very much more than stock so the power to weight is ideal. Custom made engine and transmission mounts were made and the whole install is well done. Alot of time, ffort, nd money was put into the car.
The following was also done prior to our purchase:
Conversion to alternator from the original generator
All new brakes including hydraulics
New Tires
New exhaust system
The interior is in very good shape- The headlining is good, s are the door panels, nd carpet. The seats are still in need of a better cleaning, ut no rips or tears are evident.
The original radio works but is disconnected as it does not work with the negative ground system. Kits are available to convert it so it can work if desired.
The body is rust free, owever the final thing we were about to do was a paint job. Mervyn was resprayed many years ago and is showing its age. There are many small dings, he paint is dull with many scratches, nd there are a couple of cracks at the front valance where the body joints were smoothed over, ut cracked over time. From 15 feet away he looks presentable, nd could be driven as is, ut a paint job is really needed to bring him up to full potential.
He is complete as far as all the trim, ith most being of driver quality, although some is pitted.
Overall Mervyn is a very cool little car that is fun and easy to drive, ith a nice interior, nd needs final cosmetics.
We hope Mervyn goes to a good home where he can get the love and attention he deserves.
