1957 Studebaker Silver Hawk Some of the most stylish American cars ever designed came from the creative genius of Raymond Loewy. The low. aerodynamic. classic coupes produced by Studebaker from 1953 to 1964 were a tribute to the artistry of this designer. and today. they still get instant attention from old and young alike. the stiletto lines still razor sharp after all these years. The first of the Loewy designed models to inspire the Silver Hawk were the Starlite coupes that made a debut in 1953. followed by the President Speedster in 1955 and the Golden Hawk in 1956. Financial problems forced Studebaker to abandon its long association with Loewy Design Studios after the 56 model year. but his crisp sport coupe lines remained for many years to come. These were some of the fastest and sexiest American cars ever produced. Offered for sale is an exceptional specimen. owned for many years by a lifetime Studebaker driver. then passed down to a younger family member. In the mid 1980s this car was restored with loving care to like new condition. It was repainted in original colors at that time and all chrome was given new plating. the stainless was polished to a show shine. and all the badges. script. side mirrors. door handles. taillight lenses. parking lights. fender spears. rubber. glass. windshield. grille insert. and interior trim pieces were refurbished. Today. it shows very little aging since that restoration. The 289 CID engine in this Silver Hawk is not an original block. but is a 1963 engine instead. The original Studebaker Flight O Matic automatic transmission and differential are OEM items. The tailpipes. nbsp; drum brakes. cylinders. and lines are solid and fully functional. This car stops straight. drives easily and it starts instantly. It does not blow any oil smoke. but does have a small oil drip when parked. The original radio was upgraded so passengers can enjoy the AM/FM or cassette tapes while cruising. The machine turned dash and steering wheel are impeccable and the instrumentation works as it should. except for the clock. This Silver Hawk has upgraded carpets. cloth and vinyl bucket seats and a black headliner. The trunk and floor pans are solid and rust free.
