I’m putting up for auction a hard to find 1984 Dodge Rampage pickup. I’m handling the sale for a local friend of mine. He bought it a few years back from a seller in the Atlanta, A area to convert to an intercooled turbo setup, ut another truck was selected for that. We’re located in Jacksonville, L just below the Florida/Georgia border off I-95.
Until the past few weeks it remained in the same shape it was purchased in and it’s been stored inside his garage ever since. To prep it for sale, t was freshened up with an oil & filter change, ew spark plugs, otor & cap plus a fresh tank of gas. The brakes were sticking from storage so he went ahead and redid both the front and rear brakes.
It runs a little smoother now but being it hasn’t been daily driven for a while it'll need a little more tuning to be fully reliable. While it is drivable, f you’re not local it would be safest to bring it home with a trailer or use a vehicle transport company. The buyer will be provided with a clear Florida title and it's being sold "as is".
Mechanically it’s in pretty sound condition without a lot of alterations or customizations. The only slightly unusual thing I noticed mechanically when I had it up on a lift was that fuel line was modified to where it now routes down the passenger side instead of the factory location along the driver side. I’m not sure of the reason why, ut it appears to be done securely.
As far as the outer body goes, t's very straight on the exterior as the photographs show. A previous owners had repainted the truck and it looks like they used the stock color combination or something similar.
I’ve personally owned about ten of these collectible trucks over the years and I know firsthand the common areas of weakness to be concerned about. This one is much more intact & solid than most. Almost all of them have at least a small amount of treated (or untreated) rust on the floor in the middle of the vehicle just under the seats.Once it was raised up on a hydraulic lift we found that the undercarriage did had some floorboard rust that was repaired by a previous owner. It appears it was limited mainly to flat portions of the floor itself and we didn’t notice any significant rust along the frame rails.
They repaired it by cutting out the damaged sections and patching in flat pieces of metal with screws. The repairs appear to be done pretty well and it's stabilized the damage. I would personally recommend treating any remaining surface rust in other areas with a rust converter like POR-15 to lock it down and prevent any additional rust. One of the best attributes of this truck is that it doesn’t show rust damage on the common areas that are the most expensive and involved to repair. It looks excellent along the drip troughs along each side of the roof, he lower rear quarter panels and the area surrounding the windshield. These are the areas to watch on L body vehicles.
It wore factory bedrails in the past but they didn’t come with the truck. The mounting studs were left intact and they're capped off with screws to keeps water out. The condition of the inside of the bed is important as well since it’s prone to dents, eavy scratches and punctures and this one is in excellent shape. The unusual alloy wheels it’s currently wearing are actually factory ones from an older two door 1979 Dodge Omni O24 (or TC3).
This would be a very solid vehicle for customizing and since it's driveable now you can take your time and drive it as you slowly make upgrades to it. If you have any additional questions let me know. This auction has a reserve price we’ve set at 1900.00 so until the bidding reaches that mark it will not be sold.
