1914 Stutz Bearcat Runabout Roadster
I bought this car about 12 years ago from the original owner!....and builder. This is a true classic and a work of art…true craftsmanship.
I responded to an ad and found this gentleman in a workshop who was building an old bi-plane. Anyways his story was as follows: back in the late 70’s or early 80’s his neighbor had a real 1914 Stutz Bearcat and he decided to replicate one as close as possible and possibly go into business selling them. The business never transpired, e made this car, arts for another and had the original molds he used to make some of the parts. I bought it all. I sold off most of the parts and molds previously.
I bought it because of his craftsmanship. He made everything except the drive train, auges and rubber tires. He bent and formed ALL the sheet metal. He made molds to create footboards, heel center caps and gas tank caps. He cut and made the floorboard and dash. He even created the wood wheels. He formed the headlight buckets and running lights. He poured the center of steering wheel and formed the beautiful wood steering wheel. He made and chromed the shifter and emergency brake lever. He made the luggage box. He welded and formed the gas tank. Everything!
For the drive train he used a 1968 Chevy Nova “iron duke” 4 cylinder motor and automatic transmission. I believe it’s a Ford Courier rear end. 12 volt system. I ended up putting in a newer Aluminum Radiator with electric fan, ew starter, ebuilt the carb, hanged all the filters, nd re-did some of the wiring. Everything works and it goes down the highway at 55 mph no problem, little bumpy but no problem.
I took this car to Italy with me believe it or not on orders and drove it around the Italian countryside with no problems. People loved it and always waved and asked for pictures. Now we’ve moved back home and I’m looking for a new project.
This car is not perfect, t has some dings, inor spots of rust and front right fender is bent slightly (during shipment to Italy I believe someone stepped on the fender) It adds to the charm and most people think it’s really over 100 years old. My family and I really love driving around the country in it and they sing chitty chitty bang bang while we drive. We don’t have to sell it but would like to find it a good home.
All four tires have good tread but have visible signs of dry cracking. Email me and I’ll answer any and all questions. I would be glad to show it prior to end of sale as well.
Car is sold “as is” where is with no warranties or guarantees of any kind. That being said, heck out our feedback. Although we haven’t used ebay a lot and it’s been awhile since we’ve been overseas….the feedback has been all positive on the 1914 Model T Hearse, 9 Cadillac, 7 Mustang Fastback, 8 LaSalle Hearse, 947 Chris Craft runabout, 973 Mustang Convertible and more! . Transport is up to the buyer but we will work with whatever auto transport company you choose. Sales are final so please ask any questions prior to end of auction.
