Description

The good
  • Original 1971 Buick Stage 1 (bought in 1982/83 for $2100)
  • Second owner. One of 678 made. (not a "tribute car", ever was a Skylark)
  • 100 miles on a rebuild motor (bored .30 over). Rebuilt around 1994 (I have the paper-work)
  • 10:1 Pistons
  • Edelbrock Manifold – Aluminum / dual plane (I have the original manifold)
  • Kenne Bell high lift cam
  • Hooker Headers
  • Holly DoublePumper (750 CFM)
  • Original interior with original rug
  • All front suspension bushings replaced with Polyurethane
What's Missing
  • Original coil
  • Rochester Quadrajet (neighbor said he'd help rebuild, hen couldn't find it)
  • Original radio

What's wrong
  • Frame has surface rust. I'd probably lift it off and sand it down and repaint
  • The back suspension looks like it could use some work in terms of cleaning up.
  • Trunk platform has surface rust. I'd sand and paint.
  • I would strip down the paint, r use the yellow as a base for the Cortez gold.
  • The quarter panel with the issue, ’d cut out and put a correctly flared piece in.
  • Clean up all the overspray
  • Some Chrome molding pieces are bent.
  • Bumpers and headlight bezels needs re-chroming
  • Front driver seat has breaks in the seams
  • Arm rests – breaks in the plastic
  • Weather stripping is old and cracking
  • Gas tank should be flushed as well as the fuel lines.
  • There’s a bolt missing on one of the exhaust headers
  • The body work on the passenger side fender is suspect (originally rust on lower panel), one by the same lousy body shop as the quarter panel.
  • The front grill has some broken pieces. (story there is a dog jumped out in front of the car and cracked the grill. The dog’s leg got stuck into the lower control ar, he owner was able to free the dog, pologized to me, og ended up being totally fine, nd I ended up with a broken grill)
  • The driver side wheel-well. Batteries were notorious for rusting out the plate. The radiator support was rusted out as well as the wheel well. I ended up replacing the radiator support and cutting out the rust from the well.
  • The OEM spoiler (ordered direct from Buick) does not belong.
Why is it a Stage 1 ?
  • Lifted the rear and moved the tires. Ratio between axle turns and one wheel turn - 3:42 to 1
  • Chrome valve covers (that's an easy one to fake)
  • When I lifted the heads, hey were the big valves. Had carbon deposits for a car 10+ years old and header bolts were original.
  • I'm the second owner and have held onto this car for 34 years, ith copies of the registration and inspections going back to the early 80's.
