The 2010 Dodge Challenger is many things: Two-door sportycoupe,

retro-themed mid-life crisis mobile, ne of the last of a dying breed of big cars powered by big muscle. One thing it isn't: Subtle.

When a bright yellow Challenger with the Hemi V-8 and a 6-speed transmission shows up at your door, t's hard to resist getting some seat time behind the wheel. It's also hard to move throughout the city unnoticed.

Other than the availability of the "Plum Crazy" purple paint job, ot much changes for Challenger, hich was introduced in 2008 as a 2009 model.

Tester had a base price of $51,230, ncluding standard features such as ABS, raction control, n antiskid system, ront-side airbags, urtain-side airbags, 0-inch wheels, ir conditioning, eated front seats, atellite radio, tilt/telescope steering wheel, 0/40 split-folding rear seats, wireless cell phone link, spoiler, functional hood scoop, dual exhaust, nd more.

Options included the yellow paint ($225), he Special Edition package ($275, nclear what it includes), he $695 SRT Option Group (white face gauges, pgraded audio), he 6-speed manual transmission (includes 3.92 axle ratio, ill-start assist, nd Track Pak, 695), he $590 Uconnect media center (navigation system with real-time traffic information, -disc CD changer with MP3 capability, ard drive and iPod adapter), nd the $1,300 gas-guzzler tax. With the $725 destination fee, he total came to $45,735.

That gas-guzzler tax is well-earned, he EPA mileage numbers are 14 mpg city and 22 mpg highway. I was unable to measure real-world fuel-economy during my test.

What I was able to measure, t least by the seat of my pants, as acceleration. And no surprise here, t doesn't disappoint. Step on it, nd the Hemi raises holy hell as the car leaps forward under the power of 420 lb-ft of torque. Woodward Avenue awaits.

The shifter is on the notchy side, nd a skip-shift feature annoys at part throttle, lthough it's easily defeated with an extra squeeze of the throttle. Brakes are strong and smooth, s I found when an inattentive driver wandered into busy traffic from a cross-street and forced me into a full-on panic stop.

This particular Challanger is in great shape. Just look at the pictures and judge for yourself. The vehicle is mechanically sound and the interior looks nice. The engine sounds great, t handles and drives superbly and has no problem developing high speeds. Car runs straight as an arrow and tires do not pull in any direction. The car can be exported, ransferred and registered in any state.
