The genesis of the original Hummer comes, f course, rom the military seeking a light tactical vehicle. AM General won a U.S. Army contract in 1981 for some 55,000 HMMWVs (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle); eventually production started in 1983 to total 70,000 Hummers, s they'd come to be called. More contracts followed in the 1990s to bring the total produced to more than 150,000.This new four-door, lant Back model joins the Hummer lineup in 2000. The passenger side dash pad has been reshaped to greatly increase passenger room.
This 2000 Hummer boasts a 6.5L V8 engine, ith 430 ft-lbs of torque and 195 HP. It is also an all wheel drive monster with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The 2000 Hummer is larger in size than most traditional SUV's with a 7ft 2.5inch width, owever off-road enthusiasts will appreciate the 16 inch ground clearance!
