Description

Fresh from my barn is this 1950 Chevy 3 window pickup. It has a clean Wyoming title in my name. It is being sold with NO RESERVE – winner takes all. I bought this as a non-running truck many years ago with the intention of using it as a parts truck for my 1950 5 window project. I don’t know the history of the truck, he guy I bought it from took it in return for unpaid rent bills, ut it was obviously someone’s old hot rod, y guess done up in the 60’s or 70’s with an inline 6 Chevy stovebolt ‘59-‘62 261 cubic inch full pressure / full oil filtering engine in it (look it up if you are not familiar – the 235’s rarer big brother), cherry bomb muffler, nd an old school metallic flake root beer brown paint job. She sat in my barn until recently when I decided that she is too nice of a truck to use for parts, o I got her out and played with her just enough to get her running. You are bidding on a project truck that starts, uns, nd stops but she still needs work to make her streetable. I have not licensed it, ut I have putted around in the country where I live with her a little bit. I would not recommend you try to drive it any long distances. I will only guarantee that it will drive onto your trailer when you come to pick it up. Here is a list of what I have done to her to bring her back to life so far. I have receipts for all of the new parts:

New aluminum radiator and all new hoses, ew thermostat, onverted to 12V using new coil with internal resistor, lternator, ew ignition switch, A plug, untz resistors, ew 12V heater motor and switch, 2V headlights, ew 12V taillights, ired the vintage turn signal switch with new flasher and brake light switch, ew battery, ew starter solenoid, ew brushes in the starter, leaned up the wiring harness with a combination of new wire and the original cloth covered harness (it is not taped up yet to allow for access), emporarily rigged up new 12V electric fuel pump, ebuilt the carburetor, leaned out the original fuel tank and installed new fuel filler hose, nstalled an external oil filter with high pressure hoses, edid the brakes with a new master cylinder, ew brake hoses, nd a combination of rebuilt and new wheel cylinders, nstalled new bearings and seals on the front axles, ounted a set of mismatched big-and-little used tires (225-70-16 rear, 15-70-16 fronts) on a set of original 16” rims with some dented original 48 car hubcaps and trim rings, ew striker plates for doors, ew wiper blades, ew clutch and brake pedal pads, hanged the oil, reased all the zerks, nd changed the gear oil in the transmission and rear end.

The bed has good wood in it. It rides very well for an old truck, nd the 261 really scoots for a 6 banger. She starts right up every time too. The block casting number is 3769717 and the head casting number is 3836850. The seat was reupholstered at one time in a red colored naugahyde, till looks ok. Ammeter, il pressure gauge, nd temperature gauge work. Headlights, ail lights, urn signals all work.

Now for the bad parts. It has a three speed column shift transmission which pops out of high gear when going down the road and the throttle is backed off, ike going down a grade. The body and paint are old and rough, eeling and oxidized. The body on the passenger side is not too bad, ut the driver’s side has filler above the headlight on the front fender, n the driver’s door, nd on the cowl in front of the driver’s door. The driver’s door does not fit or open and close well. I attempted to get the door operators to work, ut they still need help. The window regulator on the passenger side is stripped, ut it does come with a complete set of new interior door and window handles. It has rust in the floor boards, he front and rear cab corners, he bottom inner doors, he bottom of the bed front, nd the back of the rear fenders. The chrome on the bumpers is peeling, nd the grille is bent. The front bumper splash is torn. All of the glass is bad – the windshields are scratched by the wipers, he passenger door glass is scratched by the door channel, nd the rear window and drivers door glass are both cracked. No headliner or door panels. It will need new gauges as the fuel gauge does not work and the needle is missing from the speedometer. (FOR THIS REASON NO ACCURATE ODOMETER READING IS AVAILABLE EITHER). The heater core needs to be replaced but the heater works. No radio. No seatbelts. In short, t is in need of complete restoration…or just drive it like it is and have fun!

I am still building my 5 window pickup. I may be willing to negotiate with you to buy certain parts off this one if you intend to make significant changes to it. Items I may be interested in are the engine, he wheels and tires, he seat, tc. – we can discuss before or after the sale.
