1955 DESOTO FIREDOME
This is a remarkably well sorted original Desoto. It is believed to be 50,000 miles and owning a number of Desoto's, believe it to be correct. However, he miles are not certified due to not knowing all the 61 year history. Many aspects of its originality point to it not being driven that much.
It has been repainted and done very well. The doors, ood, nd trunk fit beautifully. The factory body lines are correct. The body rubber is in good condition. The glass is nice except one of the wind wing glass has a crack. The exterior chrome is nearly all new. The stainless is remarkable and highly polished. The front and rear stainless window surrounds are remarkable. The underside is very solid with one small patch panel well done. It has clear lenses.
The interior appears to be original according to several knowledgeable people. But it is so good I'm not sure. The seams look factory. The carpets have been replaced. The door sills are remarkable and there are no reproductions of these, hat I know of. The door panels, eadliner, isors, ick panel, nd seats are in exceptional condition. The dash is very nice with very little chrome pitting. (Desoto had poor chrome on the dash and this has held up better than most). The horn, urn signals, ights, eater motor, ipers, ack up lights and emergency brake work well. The gauges work but not the temperature or fuel guage.
The motor starts immediately and runs smooth. It has power steering and brakes nicely. The motor was removed and detailed to a high standard. The transmission shifts smoothly and the rear end and exhaust are quiet. I drove this eighty miles and it drove lovely at 65 mph. Possibly the best driving 50's car I've driven after doing this for 44 years in collector cars.
Included is an original radio in the trunk, ome extra parts, aintenance manual, riginal sales brochure and receipts. I believe it needs correct white walls and accented with either red or black color between the stainless down the sides. (The correct red would be very period during that time). Very nice Desoto that is being sold "NO RESERVE".
