2003 Chev SSR HOT WHEELS "Surfing Wagon" Mattel owned SEMA movie car show barris

This is one of the rarest SSR you'll probably ever see.......

We have to start off by saying that this is one extremely interesting 2003 SSR, hat has so much history for being a modern collectible car, hat we can only image what its provenance will do to its value in the years to come. This car really deserves to be preserved and placed in a museum or shown at collector car events. With all that being said… Enjoy the story, esearch what you can and believe me the more you dive into it the more collectible you realize the SSR is.

First lets start with the fact that this is an actually life size built Mattel Hot Wheels with only 19,884 original miles! It started its Hot Wheels career when it was built for the SEMA show as the red “Surfin Wagon” where it was on display in the Mattel Hot Wheels booth painted red with flames, wo surf boards on top, ustom one off wheels and sound system and the list goes on. See the photos included that show the truck at SEMA and its size die cast version of itself.

The truck also has a sales contract showing where Mattel purchased the vehicle from the Chevrolet dealer in 2004. So it was not only a Mattel designed vehicle, t was also owned by them. It appears at that point they were launching their Hot Wheels Test Facility videos and they wanted a shop truck to be visible in some of the scenes…. so the “Surfin’ Wagon” was repainted in a vintage patina green with faux rust marks and the traditional side lettering, ood side bed rails reminiscent of a 1953 Chevrolet Shop Truck. It still retained its one off custom wheels and sound system and interior as it was first displayed in 2004.

It is interesting to note that is is quite possibly the first or one of the first SSR’s that was actually offered to the public as vin numbers 300 through 368 were all WD1 Pilot vehicles for testing only. So this unit is #300 which is quite the find. We got our research online and feel confident that it quite possibly could be.

We had the car signed by the builder numerous Hot Wheels cars, illy Hammond who transformed this SSR into the Hot Wheels Test Facility shop vehicle. He has built more life sized Hot Wheels then anyone!!! including the Darth Vader Car, win Mill, ed Ripper, ip Rod and even the Barbie Corvette.

Condition:

This SSR only has 19,884 miles and although the faux paint makes it appear aged it is faux painted. The body is in excellent shape as is the interior. There are some small cut in the drivers seat. Although repainted for the "Hot Wheels Test Facility” videos the car wasn't disabled for repaint so there are some creases and corners where the original red paint can be seen. If you appreciate the Hot Rod culture then this car won't disappoint as it is a focal point at any event. It has a really nice sounding sound system and drives very well. The one-off Chrome Hot Wheels Wheels do have some pitting around the lip from age. The wood on the Bed is in great shape and you can tell this car has spent a majority of its life indoors.
