Here's the story...This 1978 Bandit Trans Am was purchased by its original owner in December of 1977 in Holbrook, rizona. It was transported to Ohio by a new owner in 2003 who had buyer’s remorse and sold it to me on May 9, 003, ith 12,686 original miles on it. I drove it back to Illinois where I was living, nd it was garage kept. It was transported to Los Angeles when I moved here in 2013. The car currently has 28,864 original miles on it. I have shown it at various car shows and at Trans Am Nationals where it qualifies in the rare “Survivor” category.
The car’s build sheet shows that it was a “radio delete” car, ut at some point before I purchased it a Jensen aftermarket radio was added. I have done minimal work on the car. I replaced the exhaust with a Pypes 2.5” dual exhaust cross over pipe system to enhance the sound and performance of the engine. I replaced the wheels with period correct WS6 wheels. A new brake master cylinder was put on in 2012. In 2013 I had two California compliant catalytic converters added so it would pass a smog test, lthough it has not been presented for a smog test or licensed in the state of CA yet. The only other thing I did was obtain the original signature of Burt Reynolds on the glove compartment.
In 2011 I attended a movie tribute to Burt Reynolds at which he was making a personal appearance. Smokey and the Bandit was one of the films being featured, o I called the theater to ask if they would like me to exhibit my original Smokey and The Bandit Trans Am for the attendees to enjoy. The PR person accepted my offer. Upon arriving my brother and I were ushered backstage to a dressing room for a private meeting with Burt, t which time we chatted about the car and he signed the glove compartment. I have the photos showing this meeting and showing him autographing the glove compartment. These photos will be given to the purchaser only.

This Bandit is in original condition. Though the photos don’t show the imperfections well, he paint is lightly checkered and the bird is in fair condition. After purchasing it I went back and forth about whether or not to paint it and restore it to brand new condition. However after going to Trans Am Nationals and seeing hundreds of cookie-cutter, verly restored cars that look exactly alike and only a dozen true originals that qualified in the survivor category, made up my mind to keep it a survivor. It’s only original once, nd like any antique, ll of its imperfections tell its life story. It runs great even though I haven’t driven it much in the past couple of years.
I had the best of intentions to show thisgorgeous carat California car shows when I moved a few years ago, ut unfortunately a hectic schedule has prevented me from even licensing it, nd my Bandit has become a garage queen that occasionally gets spotted with excitement by a passerby when my garage door is open. Whenever the car is visible my doorbell rings and someone asks to see it or asks if I will show it to their kids. This car needs to go to an owner who understands what it is, ppreciates it, nd wants to show it, s I believe historic cars such as this one should be shared with the public as often as possible. Every time I drive it, t turns heads and draws a crowd, nd someone always asks me if I would be interested in selling it. All numbers match, lean title, nd the ownership history is documented. The documentation and lineage are impeccable and prove it is an original survivor, hich is extremely rare if not completely impossible to find any more on a Bandit Trans Am. Here it is out of nowhere, our dream car Bandit Trans Am in great condition with low mileage, n original survivor -- and autographed by the Bandit himself, urt Reynolds!
I will not, t any price, ell parts from this car or sell the autographed glove box separately. Every piece of this car and its documentation goes with it when it is sold.
Update: Thank you all for the overwhelming response to this car!I'm gladto know there are still so many Bandit fans out there! I have been getting a ton of questions from people in the last 24 hours, o here are the answers to the most commonly asked questions:
Q: Can you take more pictures?
A: Sure, ell me what you want to see and I'll send you the pics. I have the maximum number of pics posted that ebay allows, o I will have to send them directly to you.
Q: Can I come and see the car?
A: Yes of course, f you're serious about it (and some of you are) I highly recommend it. I live about a 40 minute drive from LAX airport and about a 10 minute drive from Burbank airport in Los Angeles.
Q: Will you allow an inspection of your car by an independent mechanic?
A: Yes, f you want to make arrangements to have someone drive to my house, would welcome an independentinspection of the car by a qualified mechanic and a review of the documents. This original survivor is extremely rare and I have no concerns whatsoever about any mechanical inspections or how the documentation will check out. This car is the real deal, xactly as stated. As close to a "barn find" original Bandit as you'll get.
Q: Can I talk to you about the car?
A: Absolutely.Message meyour phone number and I'll call you.
Q: What if it doesn't sell?
A; Then I'll keep it and maintain it as it grows in rarity and value. I am in no rush to sell.
Q: How did you determine the value of the car?
A: By watching sales and auctions of Bandit Trans Ams over the past couple of years, nd especially by talking to the major auto auction houses who have been dying to get their hands on it. Personally, don't want to go through the hassle of transporting it and going through the auction process. It's not really the way I want to sell the car. I'd prefer to personally sell the car to a private owner who I know understands what they are getting and have them transport it according to their preference.
Q: I can get another Bandit for less...why should I buy yours?
A: Everyone needs to decide what is important to them when they buy a car. Yes, ou can get Bandit cars for less (and certainly more.) This is a very low mileage, mpeccably documented, riginal Bandit survivor. If that's important to you then you'll understand the value of the car and thatit is anexcellent investment if you maintain it. If you want a black Trans Am or a Bandit copy just for fun, nd the originality, istory, ileage, atching details, and purity ofdocumentation don't matter to you, then this is probably not the car for you--and that's okay!
