This listing is for a 1973 Volkswagen Thing. Was recently purchased in North Carolina and has been a southern car all of its life, ad 1 repaint about 5 years ago and looks nice, uns and drive like a Thing.

The Type 62 Kubelwagen was produced during World War II to fill Germany’s need for a utility vehicle in the mold of an American Jeep. After the war the car was no longer produced, ut it was brought out of mothballs in 1968 when the Mexican government decided to enter the automobile industry. The old Kubelwagen now became the Safari in Mexico, he Trekker in Great Britain, he Kurierwagen in West Germany, he Pescaccia in Italy and the Thing in the United States. An ad at the time read, Take off the doors, old down the windshield and you’ve got an instant Dune Buggy.” The car was only distributed in America in 1973 and 1974 production was believed to less than 25000 units.

This Thing is nice inside, ut, nd underneath. It has had only 1 repaint and is older, he paint is ok. The paint is Orange with Black standard interior; the color combo is one of best colors available. The newer VW chrome hub caps with trim rings add to the looks as does the newer over size tires. Both front and rear bumpers have been power coated.

The drive train is the original engine I believe and runs very nice. The Thing comes with the standard 4-speed transmission. There were not many options for the Thing. This is an unmolested original Thing that could be enjoyed as is or someone could do a complete restoration and have a truly unique 73 VW Thing that are very rare and have become very collectible.

Like everything else, he interior is in nice condition. The Thing has the wood slat floors. Dash pad, un visors, ver all everything is nice and original it is a very sparse interior as they were very utilitarian. The top is just ok it has had a few rips that have been sewed and should be replaced but is still very functional. While it would never be confused for a jeep, and Rover, r Land Cruiser on the trail, t could manage to stray off the pavement, nd was particularly fun on the beach.

This Thing is nice everywhere you look great for local cruise-ins and a few local shows. I would encourage anyone who wants to buy this car to come and inspect this car. Give me a call first at 517-990-2646 and I will give you an honest overview.
