70 VW Karmann Ghia - very good original condition

1970 Karmann Ghia Convertible

121,000 original miles. Very Good physical and mechanical condition.

I purchased this car in 1987 from the original owner. When I purchased the car it had 101,000 miles. The previous owner had her Volkswagon Dealer rebuild the engine at 80,000 miles (at one time I had the receipt for this engine rebuild but I can no longer find it). I did a full restoration in 1990-1991. This included replacing the inner and outer rocker panel components, usted portions of the floor pan and rusted portions of the lower rear fender. The paint is the original factory lacquer paint, Albert Blue”. All of the components on the car are the original equipment except for the following items: a) one rear taillight lens, ) front bucket seats (these replacement seats are specifically designed for the Ghia, will also supply the original front seats but they need some upholstery work and they are not as comfortable as the current seats), ) Carburetors – I replaced the original Solex and manifold with a Duel Del Orto setup – these carbs work very well on this engine, mooth and responsive, ) I also replaced the heads to accommodate unleaded fuel (I will supply the original heads, ntake, arb, ir cleaner to the purchaser). The top is original and is in very good condition, o tears or rips, he top mechanism works perfectly and is also in very good condition. The headliner is original and needs a good cleaning. The rear glass is perfect. One of the top rubber seals for the driver’s door glass has come loose and may need to be replaced or re-glued. The rubber boot around the horns has a tear. All of the other rubber seals are fine. The interior is in very good condition and does not require any repair. The original seat belts are functional. I could not find any signs of this car being wrecked when I restored it and it has not been in an accident since I have owned it. I did major work on the brakes (drums, otors, alipers, hoes, ads and rubber lines) in 1991. As a general rule the rubber brake lines should be replaced every 12-15 years, t this time they seem to be functioning fine, ut the new owner needs to know that they are a maintenance item. The inside of the gas tank, uel lines and carbs are clean. The electronics/lights function as designed except for the clock. The car does not have a radio any longer as it was stolen in 1988. The tires were purchased in 1994 they have low miles but they are old. The spare tire is the original. The rear passenger fender was the victim of a door ding in 1997 and the 2 pieces of original aluminum trim were badly bent, had straightened them as best as I could. The original aluminum trim on the trunk above the license plate also has a few minor dings. The license plate light lenses need to be replaced. The bumpers are original and are in very good condition.
