Rolls Royce SC III James Young SCT 100
Most Rolls Royce Silver Cloud III chassis received Standard Steel bodies however a precious few made their way to outside coachbuilders. Perhaps the most successful of the coachbuilt designs was James Young’s design SCT 100. Most of James Young’s work was of a formal nature and he was tops in his field. The SCT 100 was executed so perfectly they are often referred to as baby Phantoms for their resemblance to the royal Phantom V limousines.
Our Silver Cloud III SCT 100 was built for Mr. V. A. Ercolani principal of the Ercol Furniture Company in the UK. He took delivery of the car in September 1963 trading in his James Young built Silver Cloud I as part of the deal.
A gentleman from New Orleans discovered the car on a trip to London, ought it on the spot, nd brought it home for use on his plantation. Interestingly, he chauffeur accompanied the car to the states and ended up staying in the US working at the plantation.
A collector in southern California was the next owner though he soon sold it to a developer in northern California. There it became part of the family as the vehicle of choice for special occasions. The car is still prominently featured in that owner’s Facebook profile picture.
When we received the car we sent it directly to the shop where our mechanic thoroughly inspected it and performed over $12,000 in maintenance work. The car has just 63,864 miles. It drives perfectly, tops correctly, nd purrs like a kitten.
The car has an older repaint over a sound body. The interior looks great due to a retrim in beige fabric. The chrome is good as is the glass and all trim.
The Silver Cloud III SCT 100 is one of the most sought after of all Cloud series Rolls Royces. Only 39 Silver Cloud III’s were built in the SCT 100 configuration. Our car is a right hand drive example with a formal divider and exquisite cabinetry.
There are few opportunities to acquire one of these magnificent automobiles, on’t let this one slide by.
